After five days of release Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen became the second film in history to make $2oo million in five days. Of course, the first film being last summers The Dark Knight which made $203 million in the same amount of time. These numbers are so close that we won’t know the exact figure until tomorrow morning. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Transformers numbers dropped a little because I am sure that Paramount has embellished their numbers just a tad. They want to compete with The Dark Knight, and what better way to do so then making $200 million in five days. If you have been following our box office tracking reports we shared with you the huge opening day that Transformers 2 had with $60 million on opening day.

On Thursday the film made a strong $28 million and from Friday to Sunday it pulled in a whopping $112 million. That gave it a grand total of $201 million after five days of release. That is higher than most expectations. I don’t think most people figured it would give The Dark Kight quite a run for it’s money. The numbers for Transformers 2 are significantly higher than the original film which made $70 million its opening weekend.

We all knew this would be the film to beat this summer and it certainly looks like Transformers 2 held up to it’s hype. I am curious to see how the movie will hold up in the coming weeks. This Wednesday it will face some competition from Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Johnny Depp in Public Enemies. Revenge of the Fallen should remain strong until Harry Potter 6 drops in the middle of July.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is continuing it’s box office domination as the film took in another $28.6 million on Thursday. After two days of release the blockbuster sequel has already made $89.2 million. We still have three more days left for its opening weekend numbers and at the pace it is going I would expect another $75 – 80 million Friday – Sunday. That would put the film in the range of $164 – $170 million for the first five days of release. It would be right around the five days openings of Spider Man 3 ( $169.4M) and Star Wars Episode III ( $172.8M). Have you seen Transformers 2 yet? Leave us some feedback on our Transformers discussion. We want to know what you think!

Yesterday I gave you my box office predictions for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The blockbuster sequel opened yesterday with $16 million in ticket sales from midnight showings and after a full day of release the Michael Bay directed sequel broke the Wednesday release record with $60 million on opening day. That is about $16 million more than the previous record holder which was Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix which opened with $44 million in 2007. It was reported earlier this morning that Revenge of the Fallen had took in $55 million, but now Variety has raised that number to an even more impressive $60 million. As a reminder, The Dark Knight took in $67.2 million opening day last summer, so Transformers 2 is not too far behind that. Check back with us as we track the box office for Transformers 2 all week long.

Summer blockbuster season is now in full swing with the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The sequel to the 2007 hit film opened last night to $16 million in ticket sales for midnight showings across the country. Midnight shows were selling out at a record pace in both regular and IMAX screens. Some theaters even ran 24 hours of the film with shows at 3AM and 6AM selling out as well. So it is no surprise that we are looking at some mighty high box office returns come the end of this 5 day opening. Early reports are tracking this film in the realm of The Dark Knight and Spider man 3. Both films were huge opening week blockbusters. Last summer The Dark Knight took in $67 million in its first day of release. That is the highest grossing opening day for any film in history. Can Transformers 2 pull those same numbers? Keep reading to find out.

The Dark Knight beat all box office records when it was released last July. The film currently holds the record for opening day ($67M), opening weekend ( 3 day total of $158M), and record first five days ($203M). I don’t think Transformers 2 can make quite that much but I do believe that it will be the movie to beat this summer, and possibly this year.

Last night Transformers 2 grossed an estimated $16 million in ticket sales for midnight showings. The Dark Knight hit $18.5 million for it’s midnight run so Transformers 2 is not too far behind that gross. The Dark Knight was released on a Friday, where as Transformers 2 is a Wednesday release, so box office numbers will look a little different. I can’t see Transformers 2 beating Dark Knight’s five day tally of $203 million but it shouldn’t be too far behind.

Opening day for Transformers should be in the $50-55 million range which would put it right around the opening days of Star Wars Episode III and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. With an opening day in that range we could see a 5 day opening of around $175 million. That would put Revenge of the Fallen only second to The Dark Knight for most money in the first five days of release. For the sake of comparison, Star Wars Episode III made $172 million in five days and Pirates 2 hit $169 million in the same amount of time.

Optimus Prime and company will have a lucrative opening week. Just how lucrative will it be? Check back with us throughout the next five days as we keep you updated on Transformers 2 box office run. Until then here is our predictions:

Opening day: $55 million

Five day opening weekend: $178 million

When you watch a movie like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen you have to almost forget about being critical and do your best to submerge yourself in the fanboy lust that Michael Bay has thrown on that screen. This is not a movie about complex characters, intricate plot details, or even a coherent story. Instead, this movie, as well as the original, is about one thing and one thing only: giant robots that fight each other. Once you realize that there will be no story, no likable characters, not a sense of continuity, you may be able to enjoy this film. Before I continue any further let me say one thing. If you thought the first movie was the best thing ever made, you are soon to have a new favorite film to put on your all time favorite list, next to Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy movies.

I could have reviewed this movie in two different ways. The first being a fanboy review and the second a review for everyone else. I fall somewhere in the middle of that range. Director Michael Bay has taken everything that made the first movie so successful and brought those elements to a bigger, bolder, more intense scale. We have more robots, bigger robots, meaner robots, bigger explosions, fancier camera work, more shots of Megan Fox looking hot, and new epic locations. The movie makes everything as big as possible. It wants you to think, “wow this movie is huge. Look at the size of those robots!” (If you watch it on IMAX, you will be saying that.) The eye candy is all there, but after two plus hours I left the movie feeling completely unfulfilled.

In Revenge of the Fallen, Sam Witwickey (Shia LeBeouf) is heading to college. He is trying the whole long distance relationship thing with Mikaela (Megan Fox) and has to leave Bumblebee at home because freshman can’t have cars on campus. Everything is changing for Sam except one thing. He is about to get involved in another epic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. The Autobots are working with the U.S military to stop any Decepticon threats to the nation. With the introduction of The Fallen and the return of Megatron, our country is no longer safe. This time around the story involves the “all spark” which can turn anything into a robot. Sam must protect it because it could be used to bring Megatron back. Where the first movie had that stupid cube, this has the all spark which is equally as dumb. Early in the movie the all spark causes all the appliances in Sam’s family’s house to start attacking them. Bumblebee has to come to the rescue and destruction is inevitable.

The characters in the sequel seem to have become very annoying. Especially Sam’s parents who are so obnoxious that every scene they are in becomes painful to watch. When Sam’s mother comes to visit him at school she eats some laced brownies that cause her to run around campus completely insane. Joining Sam and Mikaela is Sam’s new roommate Leo (Ramon Rodriguez) who brings some much needed laughs to the film. Returning for the sequel are Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson who reprise their roles as marines sent to fight the Decepticons. Duhamel and Gibson are never really used that much in the sequel. There is far too much else going on to give them any screen time. Also returning is John Turturro who played Sector 7 Agent Simmons in the first movie. With so many characters and robots the movie suffers from a run-time which is about 45 minutes too long. That is actually being generous. Bay could have wrapped this up in 90 minutes flat.

What worked in the first film could have worked in the sequel. Instead Michael Bay wanted to see how big he could make things and because of this the film suffers. It loses the important aspects that made the first film work. The most obvious part is the role of Optimus Prime. The fearless leader of the Autobots is not present in over half the film. I don’t want to give anything away, but the story with Optimus Prime ultimately hurt this sequel. There then becomes too many Decepticons, and at one point I had a tough time keeping track of who they were. Bay wanted to jam pack this movie with so much stuff that it ends up being the movies ultimate downfall.

The movie does have a few strong points. The obvious being the special effects. They are better than ever and I recommend you see this movie on the IMAX screen because it will take your breath away. The full screen shots of the fight scenes will really excite the fans. The first act of the movie was rough, the second act was by far the strongest, and the final act was what everyone wants to see. Autobots vs. Decepticons in Egypt. The movie attempts to find a plot about an hour in when the Decepticons begin to hunt Sam because he possesses the all spark. He becomes the most wanted man alive and has to run for his life. That is effective storytelling, but the movie quickly moves on from one thing to the next that you forget what you just saw. That is how Bay wants it to be. Everything is on an acid trip. There is no time to tell a story.

The first movie attempted to tell too much story and lacked the action that fans wanted to see. The sequel is the complete opposite. It has absolutely no coherent story and far too many fight scenes. Now that I think about it the movie didn’t really have too many fight scenes as far as numbers go. The fight scenes it had just went on way too long. It spent most of the time building it up, only to fizzle out in the end. Critically speaking this movie is a complete mess. Fanboy speaking it lives up to the hype but doesn’t achieve the quality of the first film. I guess I will have to settle somewhere in the middle for a rating.

With the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming in just over one week, Linkin Park has released their new music video “New Divide”. The song is the first release from the soundtrack to the upcoming film and follows off their success with the single “What I’ve Done”, which was written for the first Transformers film. Fans of Linkin Park and Transformers will no doubt want to check this out immediately. Linkin Park has been involved with the musical score to Revenge of the Fallen and wrote “New Divide” as a follow-up to their musical collaboration on the first movie. Wicked visuals and new movie footage are present with the video. Check it out after the jump.

A new international poster for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has been released via Empire Magazine. The poster is different from the U.S versions which we have been seeing recently. It is more of an action poster which features Optimus Prime and Bumblee in an action pose, while Sam and Mikeala are running below. I think this poster looks much more cartoonish than the other ones released. I haven’t really been a fan of the posters I have seen. The trailer for the film looks fantastic but the posters just don’t excite me. But you should judge for yourself. Check it out and leave us your feedback.

For those who don’t have this on their calendar already – Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hits theaters 3 weeks from today! Excited?

In an interview with MTV News Transformers star Shia LaBeouf talked about the movie and the new guy pictured above. “Basically, the Fallen is to them what cavemen, Neanderthals were to us,” LaBeouf revealed. “He’s the ancestor, the first version of this exoskeleton. He’s the first version of this sentient being. That’s what he is. He’s the origins of what they came from.” “The Fallen, his transportation method is really unlike any other robot’s transportation method,” he added. “The way he fights is also very different. It’s spectacular, visually stunning, really incredible.” Check out Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in theaters June 24th!

From Director Michael Bay we get three new Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen TV spots. Some of the footage we have already seen but there is some new stuff too. Looks like we get to see the Constructicons start to assemble, some wicked action scenes, and some new shots of Optimus Prime. I am not a big fan of the franchise thus far, but all of the footage that we have been able to see looks amazing. Watch all three TV spots after the jump.
