With Thor being the next big Marvel movie, of course you should expect a video game based on the movie. What I don’t understand is why Marvel keeps giving SEGA the rights to making the games. You’d think they would have learned from Iron Man 1 & 2 and take it away from SEGA. When I think of SEGA games, I think of unfinished ideas and crappy controls and unimaginative story. The teaser trailer does not show any game play but I’m sure we can expect almost the exact same thing as Iron Man with different skins and instead of weapons, lightning. The only thing I can see being good about this game is the mythological and organic settings…then again… If you don’t want to take my word for it, go and search for the Iron Man demos on the PSN or Xbox Live.

It looks like it will be hitting all major systems, like most movie titles. Like most movie video games, this will suck alot. Without even playing this, I will say pass on this title but expect to see this hit shelves next May, the same time Thor is in theaters. Check out the trailer below for the upcoming game.

It had everything from original stories (Zach Snyder’s Sucker Punch) to the big comic book adaptations. We spent the whole day in Hall H, and it was worth it. There were some surprises including unannounced celebrity appearances and a fight between two convention attendees resulting in a stabbing with a pen. Here’s some highlights from the day below.

First, Warner Bros. presented Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and Mark Strong. The panel showed some footage (filming of the footage isn’t allowed, so you can read about the panel and footage screened here), offered insight about their roles and Reynolds even gave away his prop ring to a lucky attendee with a special paper under his seat.

The American remake of Let Me In had a good discussion about adapting one of the best horror films made in the last 20 years. Cloverfield director Matt Reeves talked about his passion for the source material (both the 2008 Swedish film and novel) as well as working with young actors. The Road‘s Kodi Smit-McPhee and Kick-Ass‘ Chloe Moretz talked about the complexity of their characters and Richard Jenkins spoke about finding a unique way to present his mysterious role. They also showed a scene in which Jenkins’ character unsuccessfully attempts to abduct someone.

Shaun of the Dead‘s Simon Pegg and Nick Frost presented their latest film Paul along with their stellar comedic co-stars. Their characters go to Comic-Con in the film, and Simon talks about recreating the massive convention. The panel also talked about their own Comic-Con experiences both past and present.

Jon Favreau came onstage to present his new western/sci-fi film Cowboys & Aliens. He brought out the cast including Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and a huge surprise guest. If you haven’t read the write-up from the panel, you’ll have to watch the video to see who comes out.

The First Avenger came out on-stage when director Joe Johnston brought out Chris Evans and the Red Skull-portraying Hugo Weaving for the Captain America panel. We caught a few glimpses of the movie, which has only been shooting for less than two weeks. Chris Evans talked about bringing the Capt. to life and Weaving talked about his attempts at a German accent.

The God of Thunder and Natalie Portman joined Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings and director Kenneth Branagh. Chris Hemsworth spoke about nailing the details of Thor, in battle and how he carries himself.

Lastly, Sam Jackson took to the stage to introduce The Avengers. Calling them out one by one, we saw the team Nick Fury assembles to take down a power beyond each of them. A detailed description can be found here.

Video of each of these events can be found below, except for the stabbing, because that was crazy and we didn’t know what was going on until after.

About an hour has passed since I left the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic- Con and my heart is still racing. After a day that started out strong and had a horrible six hour lull, Kevin Feige the President of Marvel Studios, put a rush in me that I will not soon forget. It all started with his presentation of Captain America: The First Avenger which then rolled into Thor and finally ended on one of the most powerful notes that I have witnessed at Comic- Con, but we will get to that.

After only shooting Captain America: The First Avenger for about eight days, Feige and director Joe Johnston showed us our first glimpse of our super solider in uniform. It was a quick shot, but it got the crowd going. It was said that we have not seen the final version of the suit. Lead actor Chris Evans shared his thoughts on having played another Marvel hero, The Human Torch, and if that affected his ability to play Steve Rogers. ” I just want to make a character come to life… there is no conflict”. If it wasn’t enough that they showed us Cap in all his glory after only filming for eight days, we were also shown another clip that totally blew me away. In the footage we watched, Nazi’s are seen storming a monastery in Norway and we got a Comic- Con first look at Hugo Weaving as the Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull. He was not in any make up or mask at this point in the story, but he was dressed in Nazi garb. What made this such a mind blowing clip was the fact that it tied itself into the Thor film by taking place in Norway and showing Schmidt’s quest for something that he called “The treasure of Odin”. They reveal a carving in the wall that is known as Yggdrasil or, the World Tree. The “treasure” that he was looking for seemed to be the Cosmic Cube, which is of great importance to the Red Skull’s mythology in the comics.

I was so impressed with the Captain America footage we were just shown that I had completely forgotten that we still had a Thor portion to come. Feige stays on stage and the director of Thor, Kenneth Branagh, joins him as well as cast members Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and Kat Dennings. Here, we actually got to see a fully rendered, 3D, clip of the film. It was packed with great visuals and outlined a good chunk of the story. It seemed as if Thor was cast out of Asgard for his arrogance and stupidity which anger Odin. On Earth, Thor is banished with no power and without his hammer until he is deemed worthy again. As a treat for the fans we saw character like the Warriors Three, Hiendall and Lady Sif. Probably the best fan shot was of the Destroyer armor walking about and attacking S.H.I.E.L.D agents in the desert. Hiddleston, who plays Thor’s step brother Loki, is being attempted in a different way. I don’t want to ruin his story line, but the direction they are taking with him didn’t sit well with me. I really enjoyed what I saw, except for the Loki part. It was a great presentation of the content and really got me going on an Avengers kick.

Speaking of The Avengers, Marvel followed this night of huge news with the reveal of The Avengers movie line up by bringing out all of cast which can be showcased in this link.

The night left me emotionally drained because I can’t feel anymore excited about these upcoming projects. Next summer is going to explode.

Source: Coming Soon

The past few hours have rolled out some very interesting news about Marvel’s biggest superhero flicks. First, a new photo from Kenneth Branagh’s Thor has hit the web. It features Thor (with hammer), Loki (his adopted brother) and Odin their father and ruler of Asgard. But there’s some things that just feel weird about the picture. Second, a new rumor has surfaced that Mark Ruffalo is in final talks to take up the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. As you may recall, Edward Norton is no longer attached to the roll. Last, both Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger are getting some special Hollywood treatment, which honestly now isn’t so much of a surprise. Check out the headlines below.

Weird #1 – Thor

There’s three things about this picture that strike me in a funny way. First, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) looks like Heath Ledger. I’m wondering with keeping the Norse mythology if they will speak in Olde English or sound Shakespearean. Loki doesn’t have his trademark huge-horn hat, like how Thor doesn’t have his, but I can’t help but feel there’ll be some shot or scene with it considering it’s such a staple of his character. Last, Anthony Hopkins looks like a futuristic pirate. I’m not feeling the eye-patch but it could be a temporary thing, like Odin took an elbow in the face during a pickup game of basketball or something.

Weird #2 – Hulk in The Avengers

Mark Ruffalo is a good actor. I’ll give him that much. He was fantastic alongside Adrien Brody in The Brothers Bloom. I just wish Norton stayed with the role. According to Edward’s statements, it sounds like Marvel were the ones who cut ties with him. Apparently, Edward Norton is a difficult person to work with, so they might be pulling a Terrance Howard/Don Cheadle swap a la Iron Man 2. Cheadle played the role of James Rhodes differently from Terrance Howard, and I’m wondering how Ruffalo will do if he indeed is cast. He sort of doesn’t look comfortable in his own skin, so maybe Mark Ruffalo will have a deep understanding of having a giant monster caged inside himself.

Obvious – The Third Dimension

I wonder how people who have one eye feel about 3D. I imagine they get dragged to 3D flicks by family and loved ones, yet no doubt think to themselves about talking to movie theater managers about getting cheaper tickets. The best looking 3D features are the ones shot in 3D, like Avatar and Jaws 3-D. However, since Hollywood has caught on that they can make anything 3D and people will go to it, there’s been a major push to make movies 3D, including doing post-production 3D. Post-production 3D looks terrible, but it looks like both Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger will be made 3D in post-production. Speaking about the changes to the films, Captain America director Joe Johnston said they are giving the 3D process a lot of time and effort and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that the special effects in both movies began in 3D replication. Hope it looks better than Clash of the Titans or The Last Airbender.

Concept art is a funny thing: it’s used by producers and artistic units on film crews to get a sense of what direction the movie’s style is going, and it’s also sometimes deceiving. I remember big projects (lastly, THE WOLFMAN) making astronomically drastic changes to character decoration and set production. So when I saw new concept are for both THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA I was heasitently interested. For the THOR pictures, it’s on par for the first picture we’ve seen of Chris Hemsworth in costume. As for CAPTAIN AMERICA, it is the basis for the description given over at Joblo.com, but until we see set or promotional photos it could end up getting a big overhaul.
Apparently, today was a pretty big day in comic book movie adaptation news. Lots of stuff was floating around the net today, so I’ve done my best to pin it down. First, we got some news on the next Batman movie from Warner Bros. on the release date of the presumably final installment from director Christopher Nolan. Second, Yahoo! Movies got their hands on the first pic of Chris Hemsworth in costume shooting the Thor film. Lastly, rumor mill is churning over a possible co-star in Captain America joining up. Continue reading for the details on the three projects below.

Batman

Warner Bros. has set a release date for the follow-up to The Dark Knight. On par for some of the news we’ve been hearing for a while, July 20, 2012 is the tentative date. It seems sort of weird for it to be set so late into the summer. It is going to be a few weeks after Sony’s Spider-Man reboot, but regardless it’s going to be a big hit.

Thor

Here’s the first picture of Chris Hemsworth as the title character in Thor.

Captain America

Tommy Lee Jones is supposedly eying a role in the upcoming First Avenger film. Jones is an authority actor who seems perfect for a role in the military. Hopefully we will get confirmation on his involvement in the project shortly.

Stay tuned to Fanboyz.net for updates on all these projects.

Comic book fans have known for years that Wednesday is a sacred day. The day that our favorite titles break loose from the gates of heaven and rain down upon us. Every week there are ups and downs, highs and lows. It would be nice to get some direction in a sea of series that can easily over take any fan boy. I cannot say that my taste is better than anyone else, but I can tell you what I like. I may even tell you what I don’t like.

Check out these books after the jump. The Atom and Hawkman, Green Lantern, Thor, The Walking Dead.

The Atom and Hawkman #46

The story thus far:

Spinning out of the major cross over from DC Comics Blackest Night black rings have descended upon the universe and are raising the dead in the name of Nekron. Dr. Ray Palmer (The Atom) has had to endure large amounts of loss in his life. He has been divorced and watched countless friends friends die. Most recently was his best friend, fellow hero Hawkman.

The Atom has been deputized by the mysterious Indigo Tribe who wield the light of compassion. Here Ray must battle not only his dead best friend, but his late wife as well. In learning how to use his Indigo ring he must also learn how to let go of the past. Blackest Night guru Geoff Johns scribes this little one shot and gives us more reasons to think that the Atom is a cool character. It’s not a pivotal cross over in the series, but it lets us see more of the lanterns that were deputized in BN #6.

Spinning out of the major cross over from DC Comics Blackest Night black rings have descended upon the universe and are raising the dead in the name of Nekron. Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps are the two main title cross overs in this monumental epic. Not a great plan as Parallax does live to spread fear through out the universe. It’s a cool idea to put Parallax back in the game, and to let Hal make the sacrifice. I just hope that it doesn’t turn out to be some bland, predictable move. There is some excellent action in this one and the art is stunning. Look for the climax of this story to be huge.

Rick and his crew are heading to a supposed safe zone in Washington D.C. after all of the loss and suffering that has gone down, our main characters do not trust anyone. Is the safe zone real? Or is it another trap laid out by insane survivors looking to hurt them? If you like horror even just a little bit, you need to read this series. It is by far one of the comics that I most look forward to every month. It has been going strong for 69 issues and I hope that there is no end in sight.

The story thus far:

The Norse Gods of Asgard have been through some hard times. They were killed: brought back to life: then forced to leave their homes. Thor was the ruler of this kingdom, but was exiled when he broke an unforgivable law. Since then the Asgardians had set up shop in Latveria, home to Dr. Doom.

You never trust Dr. Doom. Period. Once in Latveria Doom would seek the knowledge of what makes an Asgardian immortal. Of course, he learns somethings and puts his knowledge to evil use and Thor was the bigger man and doesn’t say “I told you so” to his brothers in arms. This has been a great series since the relaunch. The writing teams have made Thor a believable character and have been giving him good bad guys. I dont want to say too much about this particular story, but the cover tells a lot.

Courtesy of Splashpage we have this little video clarifying some rumor buzz. I don’t like it when actors say that they do not know anything about a character that they are interested in playing. At the very least they need to know the name of the character. Renner refers to Clint Barton as Clive. I don’t know, maybe that is something small to pick at, but it still irritates me. The guys a good actor though and surely looks the part, so a slip on the name won’t ruin his chances at the part. However, the more hardcore fans may scrutinize his involvement a little bit. He clearly wants the role with all of the positive comments he had to say about Marvel. A little butt kissing never hurt anyone.
