Comic book fans have known for years that Wednesday is a sacred day. The day that our favorite titles break loose from the gates of heaven and rain down upon us. Every week there are ups and downs, highs and lows. It would be nice to get some direction in a sea of series that can easily over take any fan boy. I cannot say that my taste is better than anyone else, but I can tell you what I like.  I may even tell you what I don’t like.

Check out these books after the jump. The Atom and Hawkman, Green Lantern, Thor, The Walking Dead.

More big Thor movie news today as it seems that the Warrior’s Three have been cast. The guys at ObssesedWithFilm.com found this story via Variety’s news link, but mysteriously it vanished shortly after they posted. Maybe the news wasn’t supposed to break this early or maybe this is not confirmed yet. Either way it’s just another Thor scoop for fans to get excited by.

This is exciting news for Marvel fans. Apparently, the “holy trinity”  of the Marvel U will be getting back together in this new crossover event. I know that most fans have become very tired of the big crossovers that Marvel has been doing in the recent years, and with good reason. It always feels like it’s just an attempt to boost sales on main titles along with the lesser known books, and fans are always hard pressed to spend that extra $2.99 on a ‘Cloak and Dagger’ crossover. But with Captain America, Iron Man and Thor coming back into the picture as a group to put the House of Ideas in order, this particular crossover may set the universe right.

Maybe you’re into comic books and maybe you’re not. I know lots of people who are just into the films. So, when I hear something about a comic book film, even if it’s small, I have to tell you guys. I was reading Wizard Magazine and there is this small Q & A with comic book writer Brain Michael Bendis (House of M, Secret Invasion)  about his involvement in Marvel Comics and The Avengers, and how long he would be with the company. He had some positive things to say about the books, but it was his tidbits about some upcoming Marvel movies that got me excited.

Coinciding with the release of Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America, Sega will be publishing video game tie-ins for both films. Although Captain America has been included in various games in the past, Thor has rarely been a playable character in franchise titles, and both can be played most recently in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. There have not been a lot of good movie tie-in titles in the past, but that does not mean Sega should not try to make a good product. Too often games are rushed to cash in on the film popularity, and suffer due to poor control/game play issues.

Thor’s first love has now been cast in Marvel Studios upcoming superhero movie titled Thor. Academy Award nominated actress Natalie Portman has joined the cast to play Jane Foster, who in the Marvel comics, was Thor’s first love. Portman will join Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor as well as Tom Hiddleston who is set to play the villain Loki. This project is being directed by Kenneth Branagh for a May 2011 release date. Thor is just one movie in a series of comic book themed films Marvel has planned for the next few years. These films all feature characters from The Avengers which also include Iron Man and Captain America. Iron Man 2 will hit theaters next summer. The First Avenger: Captain America will be released July 22, 2011 and The Avengers is due in theaters May 4, 2012. We will be seeing alot of Avenger related news in the near future. Get ready.

This is starting to feel good. I know I may not have sounded too thrilled about Chris Hemsworth as Thor, but after hearing about Tom Hiddleston being cast as Loki I am getting there. I know that sounds weird, but two no name actors have everything to prove and that could make this film amazing. On the other hand you could argue that they do not have the experience to lead a big budget movie. Its not like these guys have never acted before. Hemsworth was most recently in Star Trek as George Kirk and Hiddleston is an up and coming British actor who has won awards across the pond. Lets not get worried here. He does look the part in the few photos that I could find so I will give him a chance to play the God of Mischief .
