According to the L.A Times Universal is interested in an American Pie 4, with the original cast. The last American Pie movie to be released in theaters was titled American Wedding and was released in August of 2003. Since then there have been four straight to DVD releases which did not feature any of the main cast besides Eugene Levy who is just looking for a paycheck. Speaking of paycheck, Universal wants the original cast back, all of which should be interested seeing how the majority of them are out of work. Besides Sean William Scott and Allison Hannigan – who else from the American Pie movies have continued with an actual career?

Will Smith could be returning as superhero Hancock in a sequel directed by Peter Berg. The first Hancock arrived in theaters the summer of 2008 and made over $200 million domestically. Berg was recently interviewed by SciFiWire where he said the following about the possible sequel: “They like to fast-track it, but Will’s busy, I’m pretty busy… We’re excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don’t feel a burning imperative to go right back into it.” Although Berg is very vague the studio seems to be interested in pursuing this project with Smith once again starring as the titular superhero.

Before I report anything I just want to say this is another terrible choice to reboot. Mortal Kombat was a popular video game back in the 90’s, the first movie was enjoyable enough for fans, but the second movie was garbage (from what I hear at least, I have no interest in watching it), so why is a third movie necessary? Moviehole.net recently spoke with director Mink (yeah, that’s his name) about this project and he had the following to say:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is continuing it’s box office domination as the film took in another $28.6 million on Thursday. After two days of release the blockbuster sequel has already made $89.2 million. We still have three more days left for its opening weekend numbers and at the pace it is going I would expect another $75 – 80 million Friday – Sunday. That would put the film in the range of $164 – $170 million for the first five days of release. It would be right around the five days openings of Spider Man 3 ( $169.4M) and Star Wars Episode III ( $172.8M). Have you seen Transformers 2 yet? Leave us some feedback on our Transformers discussion. We want to know what you think!

The Mission: Impossible franchise is set to return in 2011 reports Variety. Tom Cruise will be returning as super spy Ethan Hunt in a fourth film based on the popular television series. Paramount is pushing for a 2011 release date which will fit nicely in their year of high profile sequels which will include Star Trek 2 and Transformers 3. The third Mission: Impossible was directed by Star Trek director J.J Abrams, but there is no word as to his return for a fourth film. He will return as producer, but Paramount has yet to announce a director. I am all for a fourth Mission: Impossible movie. I thought the third film was very well done, and a giant improvement on the second movie, which was the weakest in the trilogy. Stay tuned for more news as this story develops.

In case fans were not left content with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Hugh Jackman and his company Seed Productions are developing a second installment. Seed Productions worked on the the first film, and considering the $85 million opening weekend, 20th Century Fox is looking to add to the franchise. Although many fans were turned off by the departure from the source material, it sounds as though we will see Logan in Japan, as hinted in one of the additional endings. The question is whether they can go back to what the fans want and stay close to the comics, or depart and grow from what was started in the first film. I thought the first 30 min of the movie showed a lot of promise, but dropped off at the end. No doubt Fox knows their fan base was upset with the story, but this could be a chance for Wolverine to redeem himself. So, does it sound like a good idea to do a Wolverine sequel? Leave your comments on the next page.

This Memorial Day weekend, Ben Stiller’s sequel, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian will be released. The movie is the follow up to his box office hit from 2006. This movie will most likely be another huge success for Stiller, who is joined in the sequel by Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, and Hank Azaria. Today we have a new full length trailer to bring you. It expands on the first trailer with just some more museum hijinks, and while the adults may not find this all that funny, your kids will eat this up. Ben Stiller does slap-stick comedy better than most, and while I am not all that interested in seeing the movie, hopefully you will enjoy the trailer.

Rob Zombie has released a new picture of Michael Myers in the new Halloween sequel titled H2. Zombie previously directed the remake of the first Halloween in 2007, and now the former rocker turned director is making a sequel. This photo is courtesy of Rob Zombie’s Myspace page, and while it doesn’t show anything more than what is above, the image is still a great way to hype fans of the franchise. Zombie has made some really awful movies, and while 2007’s Halloween remake wasn’t spectacular, it was by far the best thing he has done as a director.

After directing three very popular Pirates of the Caribbean movies, director Gore Verbinski has confirmed he will not be returning for a fourth film. Variety is reporting that Verbinksi has instead opted to direct a video game adaptation of Bioshock. The Pirates movies have grossed a whopping $2.6 billion worldwide. The movies, based on the Disney World theme park ride, starred Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightly. The fourth movie was scheduled to begin filming next year. Verbinksi stated, “I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team. I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.” No word yet who will step into direct the project. I don’t think the success of the Pirates movies were because of Verbinksi, but I am curious how a new director will handle the big budget epic style of this series.

The Hangover is the newest comedy from the director who brought us Old School. The trailer looks hilarious and apparently Warner Brothers thinks it may have a big hit on their hands. The film is not due to hit theaters until June 5th, but the studio is already planning on a sequel. According to Variety Warner Brothers has asked director Todd Phillips to write a script for a second movie. Along with the director are stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms who have signed on for a sequel. This is once again, a rather presumptuous move by Hollywood. Planning on a sequel for a movie which doesn’t come out for two more months is risky. They want to start shooting this fall, so we can most likely expect a follow up to The Hangover sometime next year.

Variety is reporting that Paramount Pictures is already looking into a sequel for Star Trek. The J.J Abrams sci-fi epic doesn’t even hit theaters until May 8th, but the studio is interested in continuing the franchise once again. J.J Abrams is on board to produce, however it is unconfirmed if he will return to the director’s chair. Writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have been hired to pen the screenplay as well as receive producing credits. So what will the sequel be about? Kurtzman states that, “We discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month,” he said. “With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We’ll be ambitious about what we’ll do.” Is Paramount being rather presumptuous by gearing up for a sequel to a movie that has not been released yet? Leave your thoughts on the next page!

Director David Cronenberg is looking into directing a sequel to his 2007 film Eastern Promises. The film starred Viggo Mortensen as a Russian gangster named Nikolai. Mortensen’s performance was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. Cronenberg tells MTV that, “We are moving forward with it,” and that, “We are all excited about doing a sequel.” Eastern Promises is about a Russian teenager living in London who dies during childbirth and leaves clues to a midwife in her journal that could tie her child to a rape involving a violent Russian mob family. Cronenberg had previously directed Mortensen in the critically acclaimed film, The HIstory of Violence.

One of the first big hits of the year may already have a sequel in the works. Taken, starring Liam Neeson, opened January 30th, and since then has grossed $119 million. That is a huge sum of money for a film which nobody saw coming. The thriller appealed to a mass audience who enjoyed watching Liam Neeson goes on the hunt for those responsible for kidnapping his daughter. The possible sequel is being penned by Robert Mark Kamen, however it is still unknown who else, will, or could, be involved in this project. I thought Taken was a great action thriller, but I am unsure where they could go with a sequel. Especially with a title like Taken, you are rather limited with what can happen. Should we get ready for Taken 2: Taken Again? God, I hope not. What are your thoughts on a sequel to this sleeper hit? Post your comments on the next page.
