Wow, Sony just blew everyone’s mind away with the Total Recall panel. First, director Len Wiseman came out for the panel discussion, along with stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, John Cho, and Jessica Biel. They opened the panel with screening footage, which was stunningly great. The scene shows Quaid going into a place called Recall, a company that can give you memories that feel real. It’s the chance to have the memories of any life you’d like, any adventure you’d like to take. When the company realize he’s got buried memories, the government storms the office and shoot the place up. When they try to place Quaid under arrest, he takes down the entire unit in a very stylized sequence of fist fighting and gunplay. A cool probe is shot into the room that shoot out dozens of small balls that stick to everything, and each one is a camera. The soldiers see he’s alone and storm in, but he breaks out and they give chase.

The story, based on the work of Phillip K. Dick, was adapted in 1990 and starred action man Arnold Schwarzenegger. This take doesn’t travel to Mars like the other film, but does keep with the idea that someone goes to get new memories, only to find out they’re actually a spy working against the government. Total Recall opens in theaters August 3, 2012.

Fright Night is one of those movies a lot of teens grew up watching in the 80s. It’s a a decent horror movie with a few comedic nods. So, naturally Hollywood remade it. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about it, but there has finally been a poster and trailer released for the upcoming film. I have talked about my skepticism in the past about the movie, but the trailer is actually pretty neat. I am glad to see Colin Farrell doing movies again, other than Horrible Bosses, we haven’t seen him lately. Unfortunately, we don’t get a look at co-star David Tennant, but there’s so cool, creepy feel to the movie. Check out the trailer, courtesy of IGN and poster below. Fright Night hits theaters August 19, 2011.

Earlier this week it was rumored that Will Smith was interested in remaking the classic musical Annie about the red-headed orphan who sings “It’s a Hard Knock Life for Me.” Smith’s daughter, Willow, was the rumored choice to play the title character; and to add even more craziness to this story, rap superstar Jay-Z is on board as well. Last summer, Smith produced a remake of the 80′s movie The Karate Kid which starred his son Jaden Smith alongside Jackie Chan. Clearly, Smith is grooming his children to follow his path as a superstar. The Karate Kid was a huge hit grossing over $160 million domestically and now a sequel is in the works. So how did Will Smith and Jay-Z end up on the same film project? Keep reading to find out!

It all started when Smith and Jay-Z collaborated on the Tony Award-winning musical Fela! which led to a friendship and apparent desire to work together even more. A film project was the obvious next step and it comes as less of a surprise to have Jay-Z on board knowing that one of his hit tracks from the mid 90′s is a hip hop version of Annie’s “Hard Knock Life.” It is safe to assume that this version of Annie will be a different, more urban take, on the story of little orphan Annie and Daddy Warbucks. You may not know this, but Willow Smith has a growing music career and guess who’s label she happens to be on? If you guess Roc Nation you are correct. Jay-Z signed the young star who last year released the single “Whip My Hair” which has since gone platinum on the Billboard charts.

Want some background on Annie?

The Broadway musical “Annie” is based upon the popular comic strip and features songs with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. The show originally pened on April 21, 1977, and immediately became a hit, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. In 1982, Columbia Pictures released a film adaptation directed by John Huston and starring Albert Finney, Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters, Tim Curry, and Aileen Quinn as Annie.

Sony released an official press release and if you would like, you can check out that out over at ComingSoon.

Until we hear more about this upcoming project you can enjoy Jay-Z’s video for Hard Knock Life embeded below to get you in the “Annie” mood.

The trailer is the definition of a teaser clip. It shows us just enough to make us interested with giving too much away. I am curious about the picture because Nixey is a relatively new director in the game. I wonder how much influence we will see from del Toro’s part and if this film will truly be scary. I know people who have seen the original and claim that it is great.

I feel bad for Sam Worthington. First, he saved humanity from Skynet’s Terminators. Then, he saved the Smurfs from humanity. Now, in the remake of the classic CLASH OF THE TITANS, he attempts to save humanity and the gods from each other. I wonder if he’ll ever be in a romantic comedy. But until then, he will continue to be Hollywood’s go-to guy for saving people. As Perseus, he goes on a mission to save Argos from pending destruction and avenge the death of his human family. So does this movie belong on Mount Olympus or down with Hades?

It falls somewhere in-between. First, the cast is top notch. Worthington knocked his critics out of the park with AVATAR, and though he doesn’t bring the strong acting chops he had as Jake Sully, he was much more action-oriented in CLASH and does a good job. Liam Neeson’s Zeus is a bit of Ra’s al Ghul from BATMAN BEGINS and Aslan from NARNIA, his commanding voice is perfect for the king of the gods. I liked Ralph Fiennes as Hades, though I can understand people feeling it’s awfully close to Voldemort from the HARRY POTTER films.

The story takes the best parts of the original film and adds a few unnecessary layers. Perseus, the son of a mortal woman and Zeus, witnesses the death of his human family at the hands of the god of the underworld. When the royal family of Argos taunts the gods, Hades curses the city to ruin unless they sacrifice Princess Andromeda. So Perseus takes on the quest of finding how to kill the creature that will destroy the city and open a way to kill Hades. Within that story, Hades also plots to remove Zeus from Olympus. Also, the king married to Perseus’ birth mother who was struck by Zeus sets out to kill Perseus. Also, some woman who doesn’t age follows Perseus around and falls for him. The movie gets stretched out more than it should have because of all the subplots, but what it lacks in well-written story, it makes up for in action.

One of the biggest complaints about the movie is the 3D. The film was not shot in 3D format, like box office hit AVATAR which presented the best 3D experience in a live action film. It was made 3D in post-production, probably to capitalize on the 3D sensation taking over Hollywood and build up steam for the movie. The 3D is non-existent; at one point, I watched the movie for 20 minutes without glasses, and it was nearly as clear as a 35mm print.

CLASH OF THE TITANS was a worthy undertaking, but is too much packed into one movie. Adding in the vengeful Hades’ plot to overthrow Zeus and the revolving door of characters, I see they are really looking to turn the movie towards a sequel, which could be good or bad. The movie is good for the action, but a few disappointments will make people leave regretting the 3D. It’s best to watch it in a regular or digital projection.

While many people may hate the idea of a remake to the original movie The Karate Kid, this definitley has a new spin on the old story. I like how the setting is in China and the martial arts actually appear authentic. While this film may be geared more towards kids, I think it looks like a fun family film that should be a summer hit. Check out the trailer after the jump and leave your comments below.

Back in the 1980′s, the best villains were Soviets. A prolonged Cold War with the USSR kept the world on edge. In 1984, the movie Red Dawn portrayed high school teens who struggle for survival after their small mountain town is invaded by the Reds. Today, Cuba and Russian communism is no longer the credible threat to national security it once was. Since the Red Dawn remake is going to take place in current times, the invading force has now been changed to the Chinese. Politics aside, it seems China would be most likely to put an occupying force on US soil, although the literal reality of such an action could be widely disputed. Pictures are floating at RedDawn2010, where people can upload pictures and news from the set and filming locations.
We have brought you numerous posts from this movie over the last few months, so here is yet another for you to check out. Although I don’t think this movie looks very good, I know there are many fans of Zombie as well as the Halloween franchise out there, so we will continue to cover this new film. Rob Zombie is the director behind the first remake for Halloween as well as The Devil’s Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses. Zombie has cut another new trailer for his sequel to his horror remake. The movie hits theaters this August. Check it out.
