The Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance panel was a little bit of a surprise for me. I was very excited to hear that Sony was going to bring this along with them to Comic-Con this year and it’s nice to know that even though we really didn’t need another Ghost Rider movie, Nicolas Cage made this happen. This was the first time that we had seen anything from the sequel to 2007′s Ghost Rider and basically Johnny Blaze has been living with the demonic powers for a few years now and that time has changed him a bit.

Nic Cage spoke of how the Blaze that he played in the first movie was a little more free spirited and a good guy, but now has become more dark and sarcastic. The effects used to create Ghost Rider for this film are more gritty than the first film and directing duo Mark Neveldine and Bryan Taylor add some great nuances to the look. For instance, Ghost Riders leather has more of a molten, tar look to his “costume” than just a biker leather look. Probably the most interesting thing that we learned, and what really adds to my anticipation for the release, was the Directors, very hands on, way of shooting their films. We were shown a cool behind the scenes look of their techniques that involve some daredevil like stunts. Taylor and Neveldine said that they wouldn’t ask an actor to perform a stunt that they themselves wouldn’t do and it showed in the clip. We are certainly going to get a more true to form interpretation of the character and I am itching to see more.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance rides into theaters February 16th 2012.

Today is the eve of the biggest geek gathering in the world, also known as the San Diego Comic-Con. At last year’s convention we learned that Marvel was putting together a film based on The Avengers, a universe of superheroes that includes Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. One year later the film is now in production and today we have the first teaser poster which features a giant “A” and the tagline: “Assemble 2012.”

Also launching today is the official website for the film which you can check out right here. There isn’t much to discuss with this simple, almost too simple of a poster, which doesn’t really give us all that much to look at. I was hoping for a little more since Marvel will not be showing any footage at Comic-Con for the film. But I can guarantee that we will be hearing much more about The Avengers in the coming months.

Check out the full poster below:

The Avengers is directed by Joss Wheedon and arrives in theaters May 4th 2012. The film stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg and more

After Darren Aronofsky dropped out of directing Fox’s The Wolverine, there was a list of possible replacements to fill the director chair. Deadline is reporting tonight that Fox has offered James Mangold the job to direct this project which will include Hugh Jackman in the title role once again. The studio is eager to get cameras rolling and from what I hear, they are aiming for a start date this fall. This makes sense since the project has been in limbo ever since Aronofsky left the film back in March.

Magold’s credentials include 3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line, both good films, but let’s be honest here, I think we were all anxious to see what Darren Aronofsky would do with a Marvel comic book movie. The original script for Wolverine was written by Christopher McQuarrie and that is supposedly “still in play.” Hopefully this project gets off the ground soon and we can report on some confirmed news. For now it looks like The Wolverine will be taken over by James Mangold. What do you think? Should Fox have kept looking, or has the search gone on long enough?

If you are a comic book fan, this image may look very familiar to you, as it is quite similar to the very first ‘Captain America’ comic book. Typically, I am not a fan of the floating-head style movie poster, but since this is a throwback poster, the style works perfectly. Even the way the names are listed below the title are unique. This is by far one of the best movie posters I have seen this year. The poster is designed by Paola Rivera and can reportedly be seen this weekend at the Hero Complex Film Festival in Hollywood.

If you haven’t checked out the Captain America trailer, I recommend you click here and watch it. Be sure to check out the film when it opens in theaters July 22nd! What do you think of this poster? Badass or bland? Share with us your thoughts below in the comment section.

Marvel is doing some X-Men inspired variants this month and getting ready for the release of X-Men: First Class. Even though we will not get to see all of our favorite team members in the film, we are getting to see them in these “through the years” style variant covers. Friends of mine know exactly why I chose this cover; My undying love for all things Jean Grey. This is my favorite cover this week. Seeing all of these different incarnations of my favorite X-Man is great. Amazing job done by Paul Renaud.

UPDATE: This turned out to be a fan-made poster. Given the fact that we thought it was a poster which didn’t meet the hype for this film – we look forward to seeing the real thing very soon.

Shockya has the latest teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man and I have to be honest with you, it’s not much. I would describe myself as underwhelmed and not “teased”. They seem to be trying to sell the Lizard to us early on with this as you can plainly see what looks to be claw marks through the image. Not much to go by now, but it’s nice to see the release date at the bottom and it does get my web shooters flowing to see something official for the film. I am a little bummed that the lettering for the logo is so plain. Sam Raimi’s logo looked way cooler. See the costume here. This really seems like the kind of thing that should have come out before the images of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man hit the web.

Thoughts on the tease? Post below.

This is an interesting choice for our COW selection because I am not a fan of artist Daniel Acuna. I know that sounds weird, but it’s true. It’s not that I think that he is bad, I’m just not a fan of his style. That said, I really enjoyed this cover for FF #2 Acuna he has put out. Dr. Doom is a character that is done the same way a lot, however, Acuna has a simple design that really catches the eye. I love the classic Doom pose against the fiery, brown background. It shows you how bad Doom can be as he is engulfed in flames like a phoenix.

Those of you not too savvy on your X-Men villains and leader of the Hellfire Club Sebastian Shaw has the mutant power to absorb kinetic energy and convert it into strength. Basically, any force used against him he can redirect into power making him super strong near invulnerable. Now, the image that has been captured kind of looks like Shaw lost a game of hot potato with the Green Goblin and the following image is even more confusing. Not really how I imagined what his ability would look like in live action, but it is interesting. Watch the clip below and check out the second image captured by MTV.
