After the Academy Awards tonight, the second trailer for Iron Man 2 was revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live by guest Robert Downey Jr. The new trailer showcases even more badass action than the first trailer we saw back in December. Director Jon Favreau has another huge blockbuster on his hands as we all eagerly await its arrival on May 7th. The new trailer features even more of what we want to see! More of Tony Stark in the Iron Man suit. A great scene between Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash and Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer – and even more! This trailer is freakin’ awesome. Go watch it now!
Some X-Men fans can rejoice in the knowledge that a new ‘Wolverine’ movie is in the works. Others may want to sit down for this news. Christopher McQuarrie (X-Men and Valkyrie) has finished the script for Marvel’s most recognized mutant and is scheduled to start filming in 2011 according to The Hollywood Reporter and MTV. I am more that happy to see more X-Men related material getting prepared to shoot, but this seems a little fast. It hasn’t even been a years since the first film came out and X-Men Origins: Wolverine was not well received by the masses. I am not sure that fans are ready for a sequel to a rushed, bad visual effects ridden, poorly made film.

Several names got dropped today by The Heat Vision Blog concerning the actors being looked at to play Captain America in the upcoming First Avenger: Captain America movie as well as The Avengers. I usually yawn when it comes to these rumors on casting, but a few of the names listed really caught my attention. Screen tests are taking place for the role of Steve Rogers this week, and some of the names have either already tested or are expected to test. Who are the men looking to stop Red Skull and his Nazi minions next year? Check out the candidates below.
Last week we reported the big news that Sony had pulled the plug on Spider-Man 4 and had now planned to reboot the Marvel franchise with a new director and actors. There had been many red flags leading up to this which suggested not everything in production for Spider-Man 4 was running smoothly. In fact, we had reported just two weeks ago that Sony had postponed production when director Sam Raimi reportedly hated the script and refused to go any further with production. Rumors swirled as to who would play Spider-Man and just as important: who would direct. Tonight we are able to confirm (via Sony) that (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb will be directing the reboot. Continue reading for more on this breaking news.
With all the rumors that have been reported on Spider-Man 4 over the last few months here is one that has been confirmed by Variety. They are reporting that Sony Pictures has postponed production on the upcoming Spider-Man 4 so additional work can be done on the script. Reports are surfacing that director Sam Raimi dislikes the script and that he is battling the studio to delay production so the script can be re-tooled. Back in December there was a hint of trouble when the studio put production on hiatus for the holidays. Sony stated that production would resume in 2010 but now that is clearly not the truth. Marvel’s latest superhero movie, The First Avenger: Captain America will begin shooting this summer for a 2011 release date. Director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) is set to begin production this June reports Fangoria Entertainment. This is great news for fans of Captain America, however there is one factor missing in all of this: who is going to play the title character? There have been rumors floating around the net for a very long time with names from Leo DiCaprio to Will Smith all being considered to don the mask and shield of Captain America. Sure seems to be a short time table to find a Captain America and begin filming. Continue reading for more on this.

Revealing Tony Stark, this teaser poster is the international poster for the film directed by Jon Favreau. Maybe you’re into comic books and maybe you’re not. I know lots of people who are just into the films. So, when I hear something about a comic book film, even if it’s small, I have to tell you guys. I was reading Wizard Magazine and there is this small Q & A with comic book writer Brain Michael Bendis (House of M, Secret Invasion) about his involvement in Marvel Comics and The Avengers, and how long he would be with the company. He had some positive things to say about the books, but it was his tidbits about some upcoming Marvel movies that got me excited.

As part of the first DLC (downloadable content), Activision will be releasing the playable character Carnage for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. A lot of details have not surfaced yet, but we do know that Carnage will be involved. The character may be one of several available in an expansion pack, or involved in new missions. No date has been set for release yet, but we will stay on top of news as it becomes available.
Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures is moving forward on a sequel to 2007’s Ghost Rider which starred Nicolas Cage as the Marvel vigilante. Screenwriter David Goyer (The Dark Knight, Blade) has already written the script for the sequel which will star Nicolas Cage once again. The first Ghost Rider suffered from horrible reviews but went on to gross $115 million domestically. Marvel, which was recently acquired by Disney for $4 billion, has plans to reboot the Fantastic 4 franchise as well as bring heroes like Captain America and Thor to the big screen.

Yesterday we reported that Bad Boys 3 was in development as well as a fifth Rambo movie. Today we have news that Fox is ready to reboot the Fantastic 4. Back in March we reported that the studio was interested in rebooting the franchise with a new look, new cast, and a darker tone. This was actually one of the few reboots that I am totally on board for. I like these characters and would like to see them in a movie that justifies the $8 ticket and the drive to the movie theater. I didn’t think the first two movies which starred Ioan Gruffudd , Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, and Chris Evans were all that bad; they just were a little too cheesy for my taste. If put in the correct hands this could be a pretty cool reboot.
If you have yet to overdose on Wolverine related news, this may be that extra push you need. According to THR, Fox has confirmed that the character of Deadpool, who was played by Ryan Reynolds, will reprise his role in his own spin-off. Deadpool is known as, “the merc with a mouth,” and even before Wolverine was released, there was rumor of a Deadpool spin-off movie. Reynolds is a likable actor so his own movie would most likely interest fans of both the actor and the character. There were mixed reactions as to Deadpool’s portrayal in Wolverine. The character deviated from the comic books, so we will have to wait and see how he is brought to the screen in his own movie.
This week we kick off our extensive coverage for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In anticipation of this movie, which just happens to be the official kick off for summer, we will bring you five days of Wolverine related articles. Today we begin this series with a look at Marvel’s celebration of Wolverines 35th anniversary. This comic book turned movie star character has been featured in a diverse art collection that Marvel has released this month. The painting are impressive, and they certainly show this mutant in a different light. We hope you enjoy our Wolverine coverage and check out the film this Friday, May 1st, in theaters!

I had a few covers that I was really into this week. Normally it’s a bit more diverse, but this week Marvel had me. I have been a sucker all month for some of the Wolverine appreciation covers and my comic book heart always belongs to anything Jean Grey related. Click to see the covers.

Could Jon Favreau be the reason Marvel is delaying the release of their film The Avengers? AICN is reporting that Iron Man director Jon Favreau could be directing The Avengers after Iron Man is complete. We reported this week that Marvel would be delaying their release of The Avengers until May 4, 2010. This was a shock to Marvel fans, because for so long now the studio has prematurely hyped the ideas for multiple Avengers films. If Favreau is indeed being considered to direct the film then the wait should be worth it. Favreau was essential in the success of Iron Man, and I think he could make The Avengers in the same style which fans would enjoy. Continue reading to check out what AICN has to say about this news.
