The first trailer for the upcoming Disney film John Carter just hit the web, and it’s looking pretty epic. The story is about a man transported to Mars, only to end up being caught in a war on the red planet. The adapted work is famous in fantasy/sci-fi circles, and it looks like Disney is getting behind the series early on, hoping to adapt more stories and build a franchise. You may recognize stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with the former playing Gambit and the latter playing Kayla Silverfox. Watch the first teaser for the film below, and tell us what you think about John Carter, opening in theaters March 9, 2012.

From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. 

It appears that a fourth installment of Toy Story is possibly “in the works.” It was first reported by Showbiz Tonight, during the premiere of Tom Hanks’ new film Larry Crowne. Hanks was asked about the possible sequel and had this to say:

“I understand it’s happening and if it is, I hope they’ll hire me . . . they have almost every line I’ve ever said in the hard drive up there at Pixar. So they might not need me! I hope they’ll have some unique grunts they’re going to need from me so I can get in there and do it.”

This is an exciting development for anyone who admires this movie franchise. At first glance it seems a little odd that Pixar would continue the story considering Toy Story 3 provided a sense of closure. However, Andy’s toys were given to a new child at the end, leaving open the possibility for another sequel.

It’s also important to point out that Toy Story 3 did outstanding at the box office, which is probably the most important motivating factor.  Opening weekend the film earned $110,307,189 (domestically). It has since grossed $635,700,000 worldwide. Obviously Toy Story 4 is a good business decision. What do you think?

It has officially arrived! After an awesome teaser trailer and a couple spoof trailers, the first full length trailer for The Muppets has landed online via TheFilmStage. The pairing of Jason Segel and the cast of the muppets is truly inspired and I honestly can’t wait until this film opens in theaters. The teaser trailer was great, but this full length trailer is magical, and if you are a fan of the Muppets you will enjoy every second of this.

To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.

The Mummy star is currently in talks to play Evanora in Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful. Rachel Weisz joins James Franco and Mila Kunis in The Wizard of Oz prequel as the meaner, older witch sister of Theodora (Kunis). Sam Raimi is set to direct the feature and the story is supposed to be about the Wizard coming to Oz and how he became its ruler. Not too much information has been released on the story details, but I am really excited about the cast so far.

A second full length trailer for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has been released. This epic, action-packed adventure arrives in theaters on May 20th and stars Johnny Depp, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, and Geoffrey Rush.

This new trailer shows us some big time action that I thought was missing from the first trailer. Director Rob Marshall (Chicago) has taken over for Gore Verbinski, and I am looking forward to what he can do with this franchise.

Driving into theaters this summer is Disney Pixar’s Cars 2, the sequel to the 2008 animated film titled Cars. By most accounts, Cars is Pixar’s weakest film, and this sequel looks pretty terrible. I honestly am not even sure what the film is about other than it involves international travel and a concept that looks to be borrowed from a bad spy movie. The first Cars may have been considered “weak” for a Pixar film as they are the same studio who brought us the Toy Story movies, Up, and Finding Nemo. Cars 2 on the other hand looks like it should be a straight to DVD release.

Watch this trailer and decide for yourself, but unless you have young children, this looks like a Pixar movie that won’t appeal to anyone over the age of 8.

Cars 2 arrives in theaters June 24th and stars the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine, Bonnie Hunt, and Cheech Marin.

John Lasseter returns to the driver’s seat to direct this follow-up to his 2006 Golden Globe®-winning Cars. Cars 2 is co-directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film Ratatouille, and produced by visual effects industry veteran Denise Ream (associate producer, Up; visual effects executive producer, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith). The film hits the track on June 24, 2011 in the US.

Now TRON: BETRAYAL had the capacity to be a very good mini series prequel to the film. Unfortunately, it too was only a two issue mini. Here, we got to see more of the events of Kevin Flynn after the first film and what he started in the world of the Grid. Plus, the comic book actually coincides a bit with the video game TRON: EVOLUTION. Given the title and seeing the trailers for TRON: LEGACY one can imagine that the topic of TRON: BETRAYAL  is a story of Flynn being betrayed by his creations. While watching the film I wanted to know more about what happened to Flynn before the movie and TRON: BETRAYAL does give us some more detail on the events that precede the new film.

I’m not sure what the full story for TRON LEGACY will be, but I do know that it would end different with some Avengers in the mix. What a fun idea for variant covers. Disney is producing the Tron films and they now own Marvel Comics, so it makes sense that we would see some cross over ideas like this. We know that Marvel and Disney have been holding hands for a few years now but it looks like it’s becoming more than a playground crush…

Looks like Disney will be paying Paramount $115 million for the rights to Iron Man 3 and The Avengers and that will be paid on the release dates of each. That’s a pretty heavy amount of cash but I guess if Disney has it, then more power to them? Seeing how awesome and adult TRON: Legacy is looking, I’m hoping Disney will let Iron Man be Iron Man. As long as Scarlette Johansson wears what she looks best in, I don’t think I’ll be able to be too disappointed by it. That link is probably NFSW so watch out.

Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista have announced that Iron Man 3 will hit theaters on May 3rd 2013.

Almost 28 years ago, a film foreshadowed a future with networked computers and Artificial Intelligence. No it wasn’t The Terminator, which was 26 years ago. It was Tron, a film about a computer programmer zapped into the computer world and forced to battle other programs. A technical achievement in its own right, Tron has a special place in the hearts of sci-fi fans. Three years ago, director Joseph Kosinski debuted proof of concept footage for what would become Tron: Legacy. Now, the last Comic-Con before Tron: Legacy hits theaters December 17th 2010, all the big names came out to talk about the film and show some awesome footage.

Director Joseph Kosinski was joined by the two stars from the original who reprise their roles in the sequel, Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. Newer on the movie scene are Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Michael Sheen, who were also available at the panel as well as producer Steven Lisberger, who directed the first Tron film.

Two pieces of footage were shown. First, a new trailer was shown and was immediately put up on Fanboyz here. Second, an 8 minute long segment was screened. It began with Sam in the computer world, captured and taken to a facility to be given one of the program suits and discs. Then, we saw some action with the discs as programs were forced to fight each other much like the Colosseum of ancient Rome. We also got a look at Clu, the program that resembles Jeff Bridges but from over 20 years ago. Visually speaking, this could be one of the best 3D action films to date, and the atmosphere Kosinski has created is phenomenal.

What I am finding so impressive about Tron: Legacy is mostly on the technical side. First, the film is being shot with 3D cameras, no BS post-conversion mess that looks horrible and cheap (i.e. Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender). Second, it appears that there are both a good Jeff Bridges and an evil one. Good Jeff, or Kevin Flynn in the film, appears to have aged according to normal standards, with gray hair and beard. Evil Jeff, or known as Clu  in Tron: Legacy, is the same age and appearance as he was in the first Tron. Amazingly, it looks extremely accurate. It will be interesting to see the good and bad guy played by Bridges and looking so much alike.

As the panel wrapped up, Kosinski told the audience we had a chance to be in the movie itself. No, he didn’t make us fight to the death with glowing discs (I had to return to my seat after feeling mislead). He explained sound techs were standing in the audience, and we were going to be recorded and dubbed in as audience sound in the film. The cheers, stomps and chants of the audience in Tron: Legacy may actually be Comic-Con attendees from Hall H! We made the sounds at the appropriate times (modeled after the bouncing-ball sing-a-long system) and it was a lot of fun. Look for Tron: Legacy to pull you into an amazing technological experience in theaters December 17th.
