Last month we released a few exclusive photos for next summer’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice starring Nicolas Cage. That was one of the first looks at the feature film due in theaters July 2010. Today, Apple released the first trailer for the movie which is directed by Jon Turtletaub (National Treasure.) Surprisingly, the film looks better than I had expected. The film is set in modern day New York City where Cage plays Balthazar Blake, a master sorcerer who needs help fighting against his arch nemesis. He recruits an average guy (Jay Baruchel) as his reluctant apprentice. Check out the embedded trailer after the break.

Disney will not be moving forward with McG’s Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. McG (Terminator Salvation) just stepped down as director to focus on other projects. The big budget Disney adventure was set to begin filming early next year even though there was no finalized cast. McG had been seeking out Will Smith to star in the movie, but that never happened, so the movie was without a Captain Nemo. Variety is reporting that Disney stalled the project after McG left to helm Dead Spy Running for Warner Brothers and a new sitcom for NBC with Larry Charles. In other boat news Disney has found a captain to direct the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Chicago director Rob Marshall is now attached to direct the film, stepping in for Gore Verbinski who chose not to return.

National Treasure’s dynamic duo, Nicholas Cage and director Jon Turteltaub, are teaming up to bring us a live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Fanboyz.net has the first promotional photos featuring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel. Based on the poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and later the animated short in Fantasia, Sorcerer’s Apprentice tells the story of a young wizard in training, who causes problems for his master when a spell on a broomstick goes awry. However it looks like this story deals mostly with a wizard training a young man in preparation of fighting evil in New York. Check out the scans below.

Big news today, the Walt Disney Company is going to purchase Marvel Entertainment Inc. for approximatly $4 billion dollars for its 5000 characters. These characters do include Spiderman, Iron Man and the X-Men. If you do the math that is about $800,000 per character. That’s a lot of moolah. In my talks today with many people I was shocked to hear the majority say that they are saddened by this news. I think that most people fell that this is the beginning of the end for Marvel movies as we know. I don’t believe so.

Comingsoon.net has the exclusive photo of Sir Ben Kingsley in the upcoming Disney adventure Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Yesterday we showed you the first posters for the flick which stars Jake Gyllenhaal in an adaptation of the popular video game. Kinglsey plays a “villainous nobleman” who is in possession of the Sands of Time which is a gift from the gods that can reverse time. Sounds like a fun concept, but I am still skeptical about this project until I see a trailer. The posters look great, Kingsley looks awesome, but the video game adaptation has me questioning just how good this could really be. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hits theaters May 28th, 2010. Check out the full photo after the break.

This adaptation will be released next summer and is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Gyllenhaal is playing Prince Dastan in the movie based on the video game, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Prince of Persia hits theaters May 28, 2010.

The more I see from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, the more curious, yet disturbed I become. Only Burton could take this classic tale and make it this dark and twisted. Planet Disney has posted these images which feature Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice. The detail that goes into the makeup and costumes of these characters really makes this look awesome. Check out the photos.

The Princess and the Frog opens in select theaters November 25th before it goes wide on December 11th. Continue reading to check out the rest of the photos in this batch.
