This is an interesting choice for our COW selection because I am not a fan of artist Daniel Acuna. I know that sounds weird, but it’s true. It’s not that I think that he is bad, I’m just not a fan of his style. That said, I really enjoyed this cover for FF #2 Acuna he has put out. Dr. Doom is a character that is done the same way a lot, however, Acuna has a simple design that really catches the eye. I love the classic Doom pose against the fiery, brown background. It shows you how bad Doom can be as he is engulfed in flames like a phoenix.

Stefano Caselli brings it hard with this cover for Amazing Spider-Man #658. I think that this new costume of Spider-Man’s could be really tough as a black and white ensemble, but Caselli has made it dynamic. The shadowing paired with that crazy design in the background really work. I’m interested in how future covers can pan out with this costume because the you can lose it in different lights. There will be times when the colors work in night time covers and may not in others. It’s a little role reversal from the classic black suit, so artists will have to be creative. This is Spidey’s new costume for FF,or the new Fantastic Four, so we will get to see plenty of covers showcasing it.

What do you think of Spidey’s new costume? How do you like the cover? Post below.

Stuart Immonen delivers us an updated look at a classic grouping of Marvel Comics big three. Iron Man, Thor and Steve Rogers are done well here, yet very simply. Even with Steve Rogers not in his Captain America uniform you know that you’re in for a fight. This really does look like a very plain cover. What really sold me was the grouping of heroes in the background. I love how they look in that starry universe. It’s very compelling. The way Ms. Marvel looks is intimidating. She looks like she could take on the whole page of heroes.

Skottie Young has been doing great covers for Marvel for the last few years. Most notably for Marvel’s Oz series. But every now and again he does something with a cover that is playful and fun. This piece really hearkens back to my youth, however, not that it reminds me of Deadpool, but of The Tick. In the 90′s The Tick had an animated series that featured a character named Omnipotus, whom resembles Galactus. Omnipotus eats planets for sustenance much like Galactus drains them of the energy to live. But instead of using grand cosmic power like Galactus, Omipotus just takes bites out of the planets. It was a great parody for comic book lovers and Young must have been a fan of the same episode. Seeing this cover for Deadpool Team-Up is definitely what he was going for and I have to say that it gives me a smile. Normally this cover would be in our What The? section for Cover of the Week, but nostalgia puts it in the number one spot.

To date, this may be one of my favorite of Finch’s pieces. Many of his covers tend to showcase just how awesome dark, shadowy pictures can be. This cover, however, blends in light like I have never seen from him before.

The way that Batman is holding the damsel in distress is masculine, yet delicate. Oh, and the crazy looking Penguin in the background is pretty sweet too. This may be the first Batman cover that I have liked this much that is not Jim Lee related.

Eddy Barrows and J.P. Mayer give us an oldie, but goodie re-imagined with this cover for Superboy #5. The classic Superman races the Flash is revisited for the next generation here as Superboy and Kid Flash race for charity like their mentors. This is something that Teen Titans fans have wanted to see for a long time even though we all know who the fastest teen alive is.

Probably my favorite part of the cover is the fact that they look like they are having a good time. I think that it’s real important for the characters to have fun when they do something for the community. It really puts the readers in a good mood. Superboy does look a little fat in this picture though. It must be all those home cooked meals from Ma Kent.

Migliari pulls all the stops in creating this horrible situation and making it worse. Look at how the snakes are going in and out of the skin as well as coming out of the nose and mouth.

Guy Gardner seems to have had enough of it while Arisa looks to be terrified. You almost don’t even realize that there is a guy with a flaming sword behind you about to attack. Jeff doesn’t buy any comics and Green Lantern Emerald Warriors #7 wont have him heading to the local comic book shop anytime soon.

Now, I believe that I may have created the What The? section of our COW column just for covers like this. The Merc with a Mouth was made for absurd covers and this one made me laugh instantly. Check out the “Hell Cow” teaming up with ol’ Pool in this issue of Deadpool Team Up #885.

The Merc with a Mouth does his best impression of his ol’ buddy Cable on this cover for Deadpool & Cable #26. In the issue Deadpool is paying his last respects to his departed friend and how better to do that than dress in some of his old clothes? Dave Wilkins helps put Wade here in an ensemble of Cables old duds and I really like how it doesn’t look like they fit. It makes sense because Deadpool is so much smaller than Cable so you almost get the feel of a son wearing his dads close. It’s still pretty damn intimidating, but no one pulled off the massive shoulder pads like Cable.
