We have a very diverse group of posters to bring you today. First up is Brad Pitt’s Moneyball (via RopeofSilicon) which if you are a baseball fan you are going to enjoy this one sheet. Moneybal is the story of Oakland Athletic’s general manager Billy Beane, who attempted to build a baseball club on a budget. Analyzing statistics, he would use computer-generated numbers to draft his players in an attempt to create the perfect team. You can watch the first official trailer right here. This movie looks fantastic and I absolutely love the simplistic poster which definitely catches your attention.

I have enjoyed the marketing for Disney’s Muppets movie which hits theaters this November. Watch the trailer right here.

This fall Brad Pitt returns to the big screen in the film adaptation of Moneyball, based on the best selling novel by Michael Lewis. This is an unusual kind of sports story that is less action and more behind the scenes. The film is based on the true of story of Oakland Athletic’s general manager Billy Beane, who attempted to build a baseball club on a budget. Analyzing statistics, he would use computer-generated numbers to draft his players in an attempt to create the perfect team.

This looks like a fascinating story with an outstanding cast that along with Pitt includes, Jonah Hill, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Kathryn Morris, Stephen Bishop, and Chris Pratt. The film is directed by Bennett Miller, who helmed the Oscar winning film Capote. Originally Steven Soderbergh was attached to this project but dropped out last minute. Rounding out an impressive list of talent is Oscar winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin who penned the screenplay. If you don’t know, Sorkin is hot off his Oscar win for writing the screenplay The Social Network.

I am a huge baseball fan so I am instantly drawn into this movie which is an incredibly original story with a sports theme. Moneyball drops into theaters September 23rd 2011. Check out this trailer and let us know what you think.

A new full length trailer for Dreamwork’s animated superhero movie Megamind is here and features the voices of Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt. This new trailer gives us a detailed look at the plot for this superhero movie which is advertising that “The Superhero Movie Will Never Be The Same.” I’m liking the concept of the villain defeating the superhero, but I think they are showing far too much in the trailer. I’m hoping they save some good scenes for the movie, and don’t show us everything in the trailers. After the hilarious panel at Comic-Con, I am interested in checking this one out. Watch the new trailer and tell us what you think.

Megamind stars the voice talent of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina, Fey and Jonah Hill.

Plot synopsis:

After super-villain Megamind (Ferrell) kills his good-guy nemesis, Metro Man (Pitt), he becomes bored since there is no one left to fight. He creates a new foe, Titan (Hill), who, instead of using his powers for good, sets out to destroy the world, positioning Megamind to save the day for the first time in his life.

Megamind arrives in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters on November 5th 2010. Will you go watch it?

Millar is notorious for talking about “news” that has yet to be confirmed to take this as speculation and probably nothing more.

So what is the big news? Millar claims that a sequel to Kick-Ass has been greenlit and is ready to roll. Millar wrote the graphic novel Kick-Ass which inspired the film adaptation that dropped in theaters earlier this year. Millar was on BBC Radio Live Five where he had this to say about Kick-Ass 2:

The estimate is [Kick-Ass] will do 100 to 150 million on DVD based on the American sales, you know, so it’ll end up making a quarter of a billion on a 28 million investment. So It should be okay. So the sequel’s greenlit, we can go ahead and do the follow up now, you know. The first made so much compared to what it cost it would be crazy not to.

His thought process on what Kick-Ass could potentially make in DVD sales is rather exaggerated. The movie only made $48 million in U.S ticket sales, so his optimism is just that.

Today Millar went on MTV and has this to say:

We’re probably about nine months away from production starting, at the earliest, because Matthew [Vaughn]’s got to do ‘X-Men: First Class,’…Matthew just wants to get ‘X-Men’ done next year then hopefully we’ll just go straight into ‘Kick-Ass 2,’ that’s the plan.

Matthew Vaughn directed Kick-Ass and is currently working on X-Men: First Class so like Millar stated above, he is going to be busy for several months with that project. At least Millar acknowledges that they are at least nine months away from production.

Another headline making waves on the net is yet again from Mark Millar who, still running his mouth, said on BBC Radio that him and director Tony Scott are working together on Nemesis, another graphic novel that Millar wrote. Here is what Millar had to say about that project and who he wanted in the film:

Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott… I just got a call from him, literally about a month ago… it was one of those very surreal things. This is a $150 million budget… he said “Who do you fancy for it?”… I said “I dunno, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp” so he said “That’s good, we’ll give them a call.”

Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp in a comic book movie is sure a crapshoot. Good luck Millar. Like I said in the beginning of this article, Millar has a tendency to exaggerate the truth. So, I wouldn’t be too convinced that most of this is all that true. But as always, we will keep you posted.

The movie tells the story of a rivalry between Metro Man and Megamind, fighting the good/evil battle for control of Metro City. When Megamind kills Metro Man, he gets total control of the city, and yet realizes he isn’t happy. Hot of the success of How to Train Your Dragon, Dreamworks is looking for another fun and entertaining flick for the whole family, and the impression I got from this morning’s is that they’ve stuck gold again.

Comedic talent is fairly hard to come by. Megamind brings together some of Hollywood’s funniest people including Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and David Cross. Brad Pitt plays the heroic Metro Man, and considering the new trailer has him get killed in the opening, I wonder how big his role in the movie will be. Maybe Metro Man ends up coming back to life?

The first trailer was pretty funny and was a good tease for the struggle between Megamind and Metro Man. The new trailer they cut for Comic-Con blew the first one out of the water! It had Megamind getting all decked out and fighting Metro Man to Let’s Go by Trick Daddy and showed off some fantastic looking 3D.

The panel consisted of director Tom McGrath, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill. When McGrath said a special guest was waiting backstage, we all thought it was going to be Brad Pitt, especially since Angelina Jolie was here for Salt. However, they brought out a cut-out of Pitt. The stars had fun playing around with the cardboard star, but the funniest part of the panel was Will Ferrell’s get-up. He came out dressed as the title character, with goofy black garb and a blue face/head. All of the panel guests for Megamind had a lot of fun and were joking around. Clearly, the movie took the unique comedic traits of the panel guests and looks like a lot of fun.

San Diego Comic- Con has just started and on Wednesday’s Preview Night some big news has already made it out of the door. Max Brooks, the author of the famed zombie story World War Z, has confirmed via MTV that Brad Pitt shall star as the lead in the movie adaptation of his novel. After winning the rights to the film properties in 2007, Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, has also optioned to adapt Brooks other novels The Zombie Survival Guide and The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks. Brooks has also said the WWZ is being targeted for a summer 2012 release. Through a series of first hand accounts from survivors of the zombie outbreak, World War Z gives us a a different look at what a zombie war could be like. Rather than see a film tell a single story front to back WWZ allows us to hear from multiple survivors and learn what they experienced from the horrific ordeal.

I am curious as to why Brad Pitt was cast in this role. The main character of the story is just interviewing people and getting there feedback on the war. It seems like a bit of a waste for such a big time actor like Pitt to do this job. I get that it’s his company making the film, but it just makes me wonder. I guess if his name is attached to the project it will generate some more revenue. Hearing that The Zombie Survival Guide is being adapted is strange to me as well. It really is a standard survival guide that has been boosted to withstand zombies too. The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks makes sense because it has more to do with the action of surviving the zombies. I am a huge zombie nut, so these projects really excite me. Plan B Entertainment is already on a second draft for WWZ and Marc Forster is still attached to direct.

How do you feel about these projects? Post comments below and stay tuned for more news from Comic-Con.

I love a good spoof style movie, especially one that is about superheroes. Dreamworks Animation’s latest feature, MEGAMIND, is a comedic look at a Superman-like hero named Metro Man against his arch nemesis Megamind. It would seem that with the release of Dreamworks SHREK FOREVER AFTER in theaters this weekend they wanted to give us a full length trailer to get our interests peaked. The trailer is pretty funny and I like that it seems that the movie will be more about the villain than the hero. Characters voiced by Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt and Tina Fey are the icing on the cake for me.

Watch the trailer after the jump.

Sherlock Holmes will not hit theaters until this Christmas and Warner Brothers is already planning a sequel. According to the Risky Biz Blog (via THR) Warner Brothers has hired writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney who previously penned Justice League: Mortal and Paper Man. The studio has apparently also been in talks with Brad Pitt to join the sequel as Holme’s nemesis Moriarty. This is all speculative at this time as Warner Brothers has yet to ink a deal for the actor. It would be great to see yet another high profile actor join this project which has now become a possible franchise.

Sherlock Holmes stars Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams in a film by director Guy Ritchie. The detective adventure has a great trailer, tons of buzz, and Downey, Jr really entertained audiences at Comic-Con with footage and a Q&A session. Even though the film has yet to be release the studio has invested enough money into the project that news of a sequel is not surprising. The reports of Brad Pitt being a contender for the role of Moriarty is an interesting choice. I think the trio of Downey Jr, Law, and Pitt would be very entertaining. What do you think?

During World War II Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) leads a group of Jewish–American soldiers into Nazi occupied France. Once there, they are instructed to strike fear into the Third Reich, through brutal torture and the scalping of dead Nazis. The Germans refer to this group as “The Basterds”. Writer/director Quentin Tarantino takes us on yet another violent and dialogue driven adventure during the Great War.

There is not much that Tarantino does that I do not like and Inglourious Basterds is no exception. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen him do a solo film, so it was nice to see some classic Tarantino again. We had different chapters in the film, large amounts of dialogue and some great violence. It’s just Tarantino being Tarantino and I think that’s great. There are a lot of people that feel that Tarantino does far too much set up in his films and at times I want to agree. In the first chapter there is a long twenty minute plus scene where we meet Colonel Has Landa, or the “Jew Hunter”. The scene takes place on a French dairy farm and Landa is searching for Jewish families. He is speaking with the owner of the farm and you really get the feeling that Landa might be the best there is at what he does. After the scene was done it seemed a bit long and unnecessary, but by the end I felt that it was pivotal in fleshing out who Landa was. I spoke with others who saw the film and felt the exact opposite and wanted the scene cut from the film. It is just one of those things that I have come to expect from Tarantino as a writer. He wants you to know his main characters. Even if you didn’t get who Landa was at the start of the film I think that not watching that scene at the farm takes a big chunk out of the character we see at the end.

Lt. Aldo Raine and his Basterds are used, surprisingly, sparsely through the film. It’s like we meet them, they go away and then they are back again. We really don’t get too much back story on who they were before the war. You just know that they love doing what they do and that most of them are Jewish. It was a nice touch to see that they had to Germans in their outfit. One had fled Germany for America and the other, Hugo, was an enlisted German soldier that turned on his commanding officers. Hugo killed a bunch of his superiors before being captured. When the Basterds heard about this they just had to have him and broke him out of prison. But as I said they really weren’t in the film as much as you would have expected. Think Jules from Pulp Fiction. He was many peoples favorite character, but he is just peppered through out the story. That is kind of how the Basterds were. To me the story was more about Landa and this French-Jewish girl who had survived encounters with Nazis and was running a small theater in France.

I guess I’m a little bias because I love Tarantino’s work. I mean, the movie is about three hours long and I didn’t even notice. Everyone else I saw the film with was noticeably tired after and I was just pumped. If you’re a fan of his past work you will like this film. If you like watching Nazis get what’s coming to them you will like this film. If you like WWII history and hope to get an on point accurate story well, then maybe you won’t like this as much. I am going to grade this movie two ways a Roman bias Grade and a Fanboyz Grade. Watch the film and let us know which grade is more accurate.

Fanboyz Grade: B-

Roman’s Bias Grade: A
