Hugo Weaving is one of my favorite actors. His roles in V for Vendetta, Lord of the Rings, and The Matrix Trilogy make him stand out in very distinct roles. He can most recently be seen in The Wolfman, and was probably the best part of that film. Now, according to Comingsoon.net, Weaving is in talks with Marvel and director Joe Johnston to portray Captain America’s arch nemesis, Red Skull. Although they are still working on casting an actor to play Cap, I think putting him in the mix will help start to solidify the project while we wait on casting news for Steve Rogers. Weaving had a strong acting career in both film and television in Australia until he crossed over into his first Hollywood film in 1999’s The Matrix. Playing the villainous Agent Smith, Weaving’s unique voice and dastardly demeanor made him a fan favorite. In between The Matrix Trilogy the epic film adaptation of Lord of the Rings put Hugo in a more positive light, as the elf ruler Elrond. After wrapping up both trilogies, Weaving stepped behind the mask as the titular protagonist in the movie version of Alan Moore’s V for Vendetta, wielding knives and Guy Fawkes masks in fascist England. That voice was lent again to the Transformers movies, returning to his evil roots as the Decepticon Megatron. His most current role was Scotland Yard’s Francis Abberline in The Wolfman, directed by upcoming Captain America helmsman Joe Johnston.

I guess we were incorrect when we reported last week that this poster would be the final one sheet for Toy Story 3. Today Empire has released another fun looking poster for the animated film from Disney and Pixar. Hitting theaters (in 3D, of course) this summer, Toy Story 3 reunites the entire gang of toys who have been donated to a day care center after Andy heads off to college. The trailer for this is fantastic and the movie is one of my most anticipated of the summer. Check out the full poster after break.

The creators of the beloved ‘Toy Story’ films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of Woody, Buzz and our favorite gang of toy characters in ‘Toy Story 3.’ Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives? In the third installment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future.

Toy Story 3 arrives in theaters June 18th 2010.

For all of you Twilight fans out there your time has come. The first teaser trailer for the third movie in the popular Twilight franchise has arrived and I am sure you will love it. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits theaters this summer and is sure to be another huge hit for Summit Entertainment. The third film once again reunites the love triangle of Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson), and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) in director David Slade’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyers’ series of books. This teaser trailer has everything a Twilight fan will want in 90 seconds, and although I can’t quite understand the appeal of this franchise, I don realize that I am not its intended audience. The final trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood has been released and oh man does this movie look freakin’ awesome. The combination of Scott directing, and Russell Crowe as the title character, is already enough to be a selling point. But this trailer definitely brings the action in one huge epic dose. This movie is the latest version of the classic story about the famed archer and outlaw known as Robin Hood. Russell Crowe plays Robin Hood with Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. The movie drops on May 14th 2010 and this trailer is a must see. Check it out after the break.

Sarah Killen follows many of her favorite celebrities on the social media network known as Twitter. It wasn’t until one of them decided to follow her back that her life was turned upside down. Former NBC talk show host Conan O’ Brien has over half a million followers on his Twitter account. But until recently he opted to not follow anyone at all. That was until he decided to follow one person at random. That random stranger was Michigan teenager Sarah Killen who became the one and only person O’Brien follows. In the course of 24 hours, Killen’s own Twitter, which consisted of three followers, exploded with over 150 new followers every minute. After one week of being the only person Conan O’Brien follows, her current amount of Twitter followers is over 20,000 and growing.

O’Brien’s choice of Sarah Killen was completely random. “I’ve decided to follow someone at random,” O’Brien’s posting read at 3:55 p.m. on Friday. “She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change.”

If anyone ever questioned the influence that social media has on our culture this is a great story of the power of the Internet. In less than one week Killen went from being an ordinary 19 year old planning her wedding to becoming an Internet sensation. She has received so much attention from this that websites, TV news stations, and newspapers are calling her for interviews (tomorrow she will appear on Good Morning America.) She recently received a new computer from someone in Florida who read her story. She now has a designer in New York who wants to give her a wedding dress and another follower who will be donating wine for her wedding.

These incredible acts of generosity have become headline news (this story was originally reported via Fox News) and since made headlines all over. Conan O’Brien recently joined Twitter after the cancellation of his gig as host of The Tonight Show. His Tweets are some of the funniest and most talked about humor on the net. The power of social media is a forced that can’t be reckoned with – and this goes to show how truly awesome and inspiring it can be.

Opening in theaters this May is the video game adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, and Alfred Molina in a film by Mike Newell. UGO has debuted the final poster for the epic adventure which arrives in theaters May 28th 2010. The action packed trailer can be seen here and you can check out the full poster after the break.

Set in medieval Persia, the story of an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Which is why after the prince was tricked by a dying Vizier to unleash the Sands of Time that turns out to destroy a kingdom and transforms its populace into ferocious demons. In his effort to save his own kingdom and redeem his fatal mistake, it’s up to the prince and the princess to return the sands to the hourglass by using the Dagger of Time, which also gives him a limited control over the flow of time.

Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan with a few friends and who lives alone with his father. His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero even though he has no powers or training.

According to a report from Variety, Fox plans to drop the popular drama ‘24’ at the end of this season. Currently in the middle of its eight season, the action hit stars Kiefer Sutherland as federal agent Jack Bauer who is always facing a catastrophe that only he can prevent. There had been rumors for the last several months that Fox would not renew the show for a ninth season, but there yet to be any confirmed reports as to why they don’t intend on bringing it back. The show has maintained strong ratings for several years and there has even been considerable talk about a ‘24’ movie.

‘24’ has remained one of my favorite television shows to watch. Jack Bauer was the role of a lifetime for Sutherland who before being cast in the role back in 2001, hadn’t really been doing a whole lot on the big screen. With an original concept of each show taking place in one hour of real time, and an entire season consisting of one entire day, the show gained a faithful audience over the years. At last years Comic-Con the show’s producers showed no signs of slowing down. The last two seasons took Bauer out of Los Angeles and placed the action in Washington D.C, and this season is New York City.

The biggest challenge facing the creative talent behind the hit show is new concepts I would assume. Also the restraint of having everything take place in real time makes it difficult to keep the story consistent. I think the series has another one or two good seasons left in it. I am all for having a show go out while it is still good, but I just can’t fathom my Monday nights without Jack Bauer. What are your thoughts? End it on a high note or let it go for more? Numerous sites have been reporting as late as this morning that John Krasinski was about to be cast as Captain America in Marvel’s upcoming First Avenger film. Fans of the hero seemed split on the casting, as many have difficulty seeing him as an action hero after seeing him on The Office and more seriously in Away We Go. Now, according to Mike Fleming, almost all the actors going out for the role have been scrapped and are looking elsewhere. It appears that Marvel and director Joe Johnston have focused on three actors to play Steve Rogers. Who are the finalists? Check out the contenders after the jump.

Mike Vogel

Mike is the only actor from the original list we reported on earlier. He has appeared in Cloverfield and Poseidon, and seems to resemble the way people would picture Steve Rogers on film.

Garrett Hedlund

Hedlund has been seen in Death Sentence and Eragon, but will become known much more this December when his first big starring role in Tron Legacy hits theaters. If you have not had a chance to see him in the trailer, check it out here.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans already knows his way around a comic book page on film, already appearing in both Fantastic Four films as well as the upcoming adaptation of The Losers. I like Evans and he seems like he could handle the action the best, but he will still have to test well if he wants the part.

At the beginning of the month we reported that a script  for a Wolverine sequel had been finished and was set to start shooting in 2011. The film is supposed to pull from Chris Claremont’s and Frank Miller’s comic that takes place in Japan and, as I recall, doesn’t have Sabretooth in it. io9 reports that Liev Schreiber had dinner with Hugh Jackman who has read the first draft of the script and seemed ” really excited”. At this point there is no director attached and the cast remains a mystery for the time being. So, will Liev Schreiber be in the sequel?

“It’s still not clear whether or not Victor will be present in the Japan storyline. In the Japan storyline as I remember it from the Wolverine comics, Victor wasn’t there. So I don’t know, of course I’ve got my fingers crossed because I love the character so much, to have the chance to do it again would be a lot of fun, but I’m not sure.”

One of the few saving graces from X-Men Origins: Wolverine was Schreiber’s Sabretooth. His look, posture and swagger were a great update from page to screen and it would be a shame not to have him back. I know, as a comic book fan, that Sabretooth has no business in the Japan storyline, but it could make for an attractive tweak to a story that is 20 years old. I actually hope that they just loosely base the script on Claremont’s tale and throw in some other X-Men related characters like the Silver Samurai or Sunfire. Either way the film just needs to be more coherent than the first one and have better CGI and I know I will be happy.
