Cop Out was directed by Kevin Smith, which stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as its main characters. It is a comedy about two New York City police partners who are desperately trying to reclaim a rare, mint condition, baseball card while having to deal with their own police suspension and a drug lord trying to assert himself as the undisputed king of cocaine for the entire east coast of the United States.

Comic book fans have known for years that Wednesday is a sacred day. The day that our favorite titles break loose from the gates of heaven and rain down upon us. Every week there are ups and downs, highs and lows. It would be nice to get some direction in a sea of series that can easily over take any fan boy. I cannot say that my taste is better than anyone else, but I can tell you what I like.  I may even tell you what I don’t like. These are a few suggestions from this past Wednesday.

Check out these books after the jump. Flash: Rebirth, Nation X and New Avengers.

Citing one of their most trusted industry sources known only as Pinche Taco, Latino Review is reporting that Batman Begins and Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer is going to write the upcoming Superman movie. Goyer recently was working as a writer and producer on the show Flashforward, but recently announced he was leaving the show for another project. Many speculated that it was going to be the third Batman movie with director Christopher Nolan. I can’t imagine Goyer would leave Dark Knight follow-up for another franchise, so we will have to wait for word from him on whether he will juggle both Superman and Batman. More details on the upcoming Superman project are below.

One of the movies I am most excited for this spring is the A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. Much like the Friday the 13th reboot, this movie looks like it’s going to take the parts from the franchise that work well nowadays but give it a visceral and darker tone. Anyone who has seen the original Nightmare will recall that although Freddy was meant to be a scary and disturbing villain, he also came across as campy and a bit too humorous. From the looks of the trailer and the discussion at the Comic Con panel, they are going to give us a monster we will be having nightmares after watching it when it premieres April 30, 2010. Check out the new poster and some pictures below.

Martin Scorsese and Leo DiCaprio struck gold with The Departed, and teamed up for the big screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel Shutter Island. Considering the critical success of The Departed, many movie buffs were looking at Shutter Island with great anticipation. Shutter Island isn’t the typical story that Scorsese has handled, but many directors have had success in diverting from their standard work. As Shutter Island is more mystery and thriller than we normally see in Scorsese’s movies, the biggest question was whether it would live up to the high standard set by films like The Departed, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino. Did he put forward his best work yet with Shutter Island?

Clash of the Titans

In this world of blockbusters that we live in,  it seems that remakes are more and more frequent and vintage films are usually a target. The latest trailer for the epic story of man vs the gods adds to the already hyped remake of a classic. Clash of the Titans looks like it could be a great representation of the original with some much needed updates. Look for this interpretation to rock our world and show us the Greek Gods as they have not been seen before.

Watch the trailer after the jump.

When God gets fed up with humanity’s wickedness, he decides to wipe the slate clean and start over. When Dennis Quaid and Paul Bettany need a paycheck, they lend their acting credibility to an utterly ridiculous movie. Legion tells the story of Michael, the sole renegade angel defying God’s wish to destroy humanity, and protect a woman pregnant with a child destined to protect humanity. Unfortunately, nothing in this movie made any sense.

When four friends get wasted at a ski resort and hop in the hot tub outside, they find themselves sent back to 1986. Yep, that same old story right? Starring John Cusack, Hot Tub Time Machine is one of those comedic films that pokes fun at itself while joking about the past. When I first saw the trailer, it seemed pretty funny but looked like it would fall in with most other PG-13 comedy trailers. Now it’s obvious they’re gonna shoot for a hard R, which usually suits comedy. Take a look at Hot Tub Time Machine before it hits theaters March 19th.

The first trailer for The A-Team has arrived online, and it looks very good. Starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, and Sharlto Copley, the movie is an adaptation of the TV show about a group of wrongfully convicted soldiers working as mercenaries while learning the truth behind their framing. The movie looks to get the spirit of the show and highlight each of the character’s unique traits. I am extremely excited for this feature, so keep an eye for more footage and news before June 11, 2010 when it hits theaters.

Yippee Kiy Ya Mother Fu…Wait a minute – Die Hard is a Christmas movie!? Hell yeah it is, and that is why it found a way on our list of 12 Christmas movies you should of watched this holiday season. Die Hard hit theaters back in 1988 and starred Bruce Willis as New York cop John McClane who thwarts a terrorist plot to rob the vault of the building he just happens to be having a Christmas party at. If you haven’t seen Die Hard you are missing the greatest action movie ever made and my personal favorite for the holiday season.

One of my favorite holiday films is The Family Man which was in theaters back in 2000. Starring Nicolas Cage and Tea’ Leoni, The Family Man tells the story of Jack Campbell (Cage) a wealthy New York businessman who appears to have it all – expensive clothes, high rise apartment, luxury car, and beautiful woman. However, there is one thing missing from his life – family. We find out that Jack could have led a completely different life had he married his college sweetheart Kate (Leoni.) On Christmas Eve Jack meets an angel named Cash (Don Cheadle) who, unknowing to Jack, gives him the opportunity of a glimpse of what life could have been. This is a great Christmas movie and if you have not seen it I recommend you pick it up, or at the very least watch the trailer for it after the jump.

One of these movies is about a man learning the true value of his life and Christmas spirit, and the other is about Santa being a murderous monster. Jimmy Stewart is one of film’s most classic actors, appearing in some of Hollywood’s most memorable roles. Bill Goldberg was a professional wrestler who portrays the blood thirsty St. Nick. None of these movies really have anything in common, but they’ll both help usher in the holiday in a unique way.

While very different from each other, Scrooged and The Nativity Story both help get audiences in the Christmas spirit. Scrooged, starring Bill Murray in a modern day adaptation of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol as a TV executive who has lost the spirit of the season. The Nativity Story tells the story of Mary and Joseph struggling with learning they are soon going to become the parents of the Son of God. Both films are enjoyable productions and instill a strong sense of holiday spirit in the audience, so if you have not seen either I would strongly recommend both.

LangCable

Could Avatar’s Stephen Lang play the X-Men’s favorite mutant from the future, Cable? Well, he definitely looks the part and judging by his performances is such films as Tombstone, Gettysburg and this holiday seasons Avatar he also has the chops. With 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film franchise in limbo right now Cable could be the shot in the arm that the fans need to get interested again, or at least that’s what Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld thinks.

One of my favorite movies of all time, Love Actually blends holiday spirit with imperfect people searching for love. Told through multiple eyes with overlapping connections, the movie shows us the lives of several British citizens each dealing with their own respective romantic shortfalls. The Prime Minister who thinks his plain secretary is lovely, the widower whose son is starting to experience the most insipid of emotions, and the writer who walked in on his wife and brother are just a few of the stories that unfold in this classic tale. Check out a clip from Love Actually below, and if you’ve been a good boy or girl this year, ask Santa for it.

Charles Dicken’s classic A Christmas Carol is one of the most adapted stories in film history. Telling the timeless story of a man forced to see the negative outcome of his actions, Scrooge ends up having a change of heart. Who could tell this story better than the Muppets? Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang tag along with Michael Caine in one of the Muppet’s finest films. Take a look at the comedic Christmas film below.

This movie was placed in my 31 Days of Halloween segment, but it also deserves a spot on my Christmas countdown. Gremlins tells the story of a kid who gets a strange creature as a holiday present, and ends up having to protect his family after they morph into evil monsters. I have been given some bad presents during the Christmas season in the past, but this would by far be the worst. If you’re feeling like a Christmas movie that’s a departure from the standard holiday films, check out Gremlins.

A Christmas Story usually shows for 24 hours on Christmas, so needless to say it’s a holiday tradition. One of those movies that touches everybody, I cannot help but think of scenes when they happen in real life. Today, I went by Dicks Sporting Goods and saw they actually sell a Red Ryder BB Gun. My favorite scenes are where the kid licks the pole and gets his tongue stuck it, and the family going to the Asian restaurant after their dinner gets destroyed. Check out a scene from A Christmas Story below.

A classic from my childhood, Home Alone is one of those family movies everyone can enjoy. As a kid, I loved Kevin’s ideas for fortifying his house and as a grown up I enjoy the humor I never got as a child. Anyone who travels often or has a big family will appreciate the hectic and perplexing trials those experiences bring. Personally, there’s no way those parents should have been allowed to be legal guardians, especially after Home Alone 2, but it’s a movie after all. Check out the original trailer below.
