The headline says it all. After launching Fanboyz.net in February 2009 we have decided to spice things up a bit for both our writers and of course, you, our readers. We have outgrown our original look, which while we appreciate our amateur design and logo, we felt it was time to take this site to the next level. We have many new changes that we look forward to hear some feedback on. We have a much more organized design that will showcase our featured news and articles in a cleaner design. The new design is all about being accessible to our readers so check out what new features we have added:

What’s New?

Starting at the top and working our way down we completely transformed Fanboyz.net. With a new logo, color scheme, and layout the way we present news, reviews, and featured articles has been transformed into what you see today.

We began with a new logo which captures the essence of our website. Covering the big news stories in both the movie and comic book world we wanted to create a logo that would be symbolic of both of these forms of media. With a design that looks like it was ripped from the pages of a comic book we bring you the new and improved Fanboyz.net brand.

Highlights

Displayed below our new logo is our featured news. The big headlines, the latest movie reviews, the original articles, and more will all be features here.

Directly beneath our featured news scroll box are our latest movie news story, movie review, and movie trailer to hit the site. You know when you go to a website and want to just see the latest trailer for a movie, but don’t want to navigate all around searching for it. Now we have the latest trailer featured right on the front page. Can’t miss it.

To keep with our plan to make everything more organized and user friendly we have added several links that will assist in navigating Fanboyz.net. Want to follow us on Twitter? Click the box.
Social media plays an important role in building a fanbase for a website and is vital in maintaining that audience. We have made it even more accessible to partake in the social media aspect of the world wide web by enabling our readers to submit our articles to Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, and Digg.
The Future

As you may be aware, we often find funny videos on the Internet machine. One of my favorite sites for funny stuff is Ebaum’s World, where they have some of the best videos and pictures for people who like to laugh. They have two videos that stood out to me today, one is a montage of some of the best movie insults, and the other is a spoof trailer. People who’ve seen a lot of movies will enjoy both; the insults are pulled from some awesome movies, and the spoof trailer mocks the formulaic way critically acclaimed movies are made. Check the movies out below.

Be avised, LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof did not write a BP oil spill flick, he did this as a joke

Source: Esquire

Damon Lindelof, executive producer and writer for the hit TV series LOST, has been a bit bored since the show wrapped up. On his Twitter account, he revealed his next project, a summer action movie based on the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. For those unaware what’s happened over the past 50 days in the Gulf, well you should really watch the news more often. Anyway, the story sounds a bit familiar (LOST co-creator J.J. Abrams wrote the movie Armageddon). Read below for a brief synopsis of ARMAGEDDONER!

A greedy, evil corporation has unwittingly created a natural disaster the likes of which the world has never seen. Protocols were ignored. Warnings were unheeded. And none of the damn eggheads in Washington can seem to come up with a way to stop millions of barrels of crude from pumping into the goddamned Gulf, threatening our Americanism!

What we need, ladies and gentlemen, is experience. Experts who know their way around an OIL RIG. But not just any ROUGHNECKS. No. For this crazy plan to work, we’ll need men who have experience with SPACE TRAVEL. Why?

Because we’re gonna reverse-ARMAGEDDON this shit and call it a sequel.

FADE IN:

We OPEN on Billy Bob. He doesn’t need the cane anymore — maybe he has some kind of Iron Man cyberleg or something. This will be important later. Just don’t ask me why. The phone rings.

He answers it. It’s the PRESIDENT. African American will seem too current and 24 just did two seasons with a chick in the Oval Office, so I say we get real progressive up in here and go Jew. Maybe Dreyfuss or Hoffman.

President Jew lays it out. Tragedy in the Gulf. Lives lost. Massive ecological disaster. But the public is only being told half the story. If the other half were revealed, they’d be rioting in the goddamned streets (end of Act Two, by the way) so Billy Bob had better sit down. VROOOVK! — with a whir of knee-servo-motors, Billy Bob does just that, “Tell me, Mr. President.”

And in a series of totally awesome CGI graphics (this thing is in 3D, bitches) we learn that through history, GEOLOGISTS have conspired to hide the truth of our own planet from us — that, in fact, the Earth does not have a molten core but instead, a core comprised entirely of OIL. And armed with that secret knowledge (the Vatican should be in on this, too — let’s tap that Da Vinci Code audience), corporations have been racing to TAP that oil, thus controlling our long-term energy supply and blahblahblah who gives a shit, we GET IT! But the headline is THIS:

Now that the core has been tapped, it is spewing like a sailor on shore leave. And if it can’t be stopped? The core of the planet will empty out. And then?

The Earth will fucking COLLAPSE!!!

Billy Bob takes a dramatic pause and quietly says “Good God, Mr. President. We’re all dead.” (Trailer moment.) But then he realizes why the President has called HIM of all people.

Because he’s saved the world before. He hatched the plan. He put it into action. He got a team of roughnecks off an oil rig and into OUTER SPACE to nuke an asteroid that was threatening our way of life. But what’s that got to do with the oil leak?

Well, the wonks at NASA have found an ASTEROID that will pass by Earth in about three days. On its current path, it’ll miss us by a good million miles or so.

But if… dammit, IF… someone were to go up there and detonate a calibrated warhead on that damn thing, its trajectory could be altered. Altered so specifically that it could be made to hit a very specific target.

A target on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico.

It can plug that leak.

Yes. Once such an asteroid threatened to destroy us all. But now? It’s our only chance at salvation. (Movie poster tagline!)

CLOSE ON Billy Bob. Moment of truth. It’s too much. There’s no time. He’s retired now. And he has a drinking problem and an ex-wife who doesn’t respect him. It’s just him and his bionic leg on a horse farm in Wyoming.

He shakes his head as President Hoffman awaits his answer. Then, finally, “I know you don’t believe in Jesus Christ, sir…how the hell can you believe in me?”

Hoffman sighs: “Because you were the only one who answered the damn phone.” (Trailer moment No. 2.)

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is only the first PAGE AND A HALF of the movie.

Bay’s in. He loves the “James Cameron fucking environmental message bullshit” of it.

Willis wants to do it, even though he seems to have forgotten he died in the first one. If we want him, easy enough to say he’s a twin brother or do some time travel thingamajob once they get into space.

Normally, I hate sequels, but this is a no-brainer.

Literally.

Whaddaya think?

Investigated by Jordan Tunney and David Williams

A local father was at a movie theater when he spotted something interesting on an advertisement for How to Train Your Dragon at the Imax. Apparently, he was standing and looking at the poster when he saw a weird shape in the clouds above the title. It’s not as in-your-face as some of Disney’s antics (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King) but let’s be honest, it’s Dreamworks, they don’t go above and beyond like Disney. Check out the pictures below.

Throughout Hollywood history, countless characters have been played by various actors. While some have clearly been better than others, other times it is difficult to decide which actor does the best job in the role. Square Off takes two actors and puts them against each other, and determines the best. For our first match-up, we are going to take a look at Brian Cox and Danny Huston in their portrayals of Col. William Stryker from the X-MEN series.

Col. William Stryker rivals many humans with his hatred for mutants in the X-MEN universe. As a father, he was unable to stop his mutant son from manipulating his wife’s mind as she killed herself. From that point on, he set himself to rid the world of mutants. Pragmatically, he surrounds himself with mutants and pulls their strings to work towards his sick final solution. In X2, Stryker is portrayed by one of Hollywood’s greats, Brian Cox. Stryker’s plan in the film is to use Charles Xavier’s Cerebro machine to end the lives of all mutants around the world. Danny Huston, in the prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine, plays a younger Stryker, who seeks to create the ultimate mutant weapon, and use it to do his evil bidding. Two very different actors, two very different movies. Which one will the winner?

Brian Cox – X2

Brian shows the more emotional side of Stryker in X2. Stryker explains to Xavier the reason for his hatred stems from the loss of his wife. He describes in detail how his wife put a power tool to her head while his son manipulated her thoughts. Instead of being short-sighted and thinking small, Stryker uses his learned knowledge of Cerebro to strike at all mutants around the planet at once. He successfully invaded Xavier’s mansion, and his deep pockets through the military have supplied him with a tactical force to secure one of the most powerful mutants, Xavier himself. The last we see of him, his plan has been foiled, and Wolverine leaves him injured and chained up to face a storm of flooding water from the broken dam at the military facility.

Danny Huston – X-MEN Origins: Wolverine

Danny Huston plays Stryker as a younger and more fluid man. His overall plan in the film is to create the ultimate killing machine, but throughout the movie he goes back and forth with allegiances. The opening shows him with his mutant team, including Wolverine. After Wolverine leaves the team, Stryker goes after the other teammates who left before sending Victor Creed after him. Ironically enough, Stryker puts Wolverine through the Weapon X program, testing him to see if the adamantium process is viable. It’s with the indestructible metal that Wolverine would eventually defeat Stryker in the future, but not before the Colonel shoots him in the head, leading to his memory loss.

And the winner is…

Brian Cox, who not only gave Stryker a deeper portrayal than Huston, but also is comes across more believable as a rogue military man. This decision was fairly straightforward, but in upcoming Squared Off features, we will be looking into some that are much more difficult to determine. Do you agree with this outcome? Leave your comments below.

Just Cause 2 knows what it’s supposed to be; fun, open-world gameplay that’s loose on the story and firm on the action. You play as Rico Rodriguez, a man of many talents, as he attempts to overthrow a dictator on an island nation. With a parachute and grappling hook, you can go just about anywhere on the map in no time at all. One of the coolest actions is flying a large Bowing 737 around the map. Not long after its release yesterday, it was discovered that flying one of these planes over a smaller island on the map caused a unique series of events. The plane crashes, and you soon discover a broken Egyptian statue, a survivors camp along the beach, and a hatch into the ground. Sound familiar? Check out the Lost hidden gems below.
