When it comes to M. Night Shyamalan, there are two things that run through people’s mind: what sort of crazy story/twist is he coming up with next, and “is that how you spell his name?” A lot of his haters tend to knock him on his original stories and endings, like LADY IN THE WATER and THE VILLAGE. However, he may win over some critics with this summer’s THE LAST AIRBENDER, the adaptation of the action cartoon he wrote and directed. Looking towards his next project, he has gone back to his usual secrecy. There’s a bit of news though, and some of it might excite fans of one of Shyamalan’s best movies, UNBREAKABLE.

The news is that Shyamalan has a script completed and shopping it around to top studio executives. While the details of the script are being kept secret, there are a few actors loosely attached to the movie, including Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow and Bruce Willis. While we do not know what the story is exactly, Willis said in an interview with MTV during promotion for COP OUT that he had spoken to Shyamalan over the holiday season and that they had an idea about having Willis’ character face Sam Jackson’s villainous Mr. Glass. He said they thought about taking the story further into the action genre since they set up the dramatic origin in the first film. Bruce also added he would be on board as long as Jackson is. With THE LAST AIRBENDER coming out in two weeks, Shyamalan may be feeling a bit generous to shed some light on the secret film. Does anyone out there want to see a sequel to UNBREAKABLE?

The directing duo that brought us such films as CRANK, CRANK 2 HIGH VOLTAGE and GAMER, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, are reportedly in early talks with Columbia Pictures to direct the new Ghost Rider project. This could be a sequel to the 2007 GHOST RIDER film, but there has been serious talk about rebooting the entire franchise altogether. Nic Cage still wants to be a part of the story and has been in tapped to reprise the role of Johnny Blaze. Right now, the working title for the film is GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGANCE and to me, that sounds like a reboot name.

Read more after the jump.

Anyone else think that this is a terrible idea? Me too. Sorry to the fans of the CRANK movies, but they were awful. I understand that they are not meant to be these amazing, well thought out stories, but the idea of a good Ghost Rider film needs to be. I hope that Columbia Pictures has some sense and has a good script in mind though, if they did than the first film would have been great. I know that it made a descent amount of money and the effects looked pretty good, but I’m going to need more bang for my buck if I’m going to watch another Ghost Rider pic. There is some fun action in the duo’s previous features, though I’m not so convinced of there ability to bring a good script to life. I wonder if someone at Columbia Pictures saw the end of CRANK 2 and was like “Wow! Jason Statham’s head caught on fire at the end! We should totally get these guys to direct our next Ghost Rider movie!”. I don’t know what a new Ghost Rider picture needs, but I’m not sure we need these guys. The details of the plot are being kept quiet, so stay tuned as we will bring you more news as it hits the web.

Am I being to hard? I’m just one fan, post comments below.

Shrouded in secrecy and speculation, the trailer for SUPER 8 has finally hit the web. The only details we know about the movie is that it takes place in 1979, deals with an alien escaping US custody between Area-51 and Ohio, where the cargo is being delivered. It is being directed by J.J. Abrams, who won box office and critical success with STAR TREK last year. Joining him is legendary director Steven Spielberg, who will be producing the project for Paramount through his studio Amblin Entertainment. The trailer is a base teaser, but it’s pretty cool to see the massive train wreck anyway, so check it out. Read more about the movie and see the teaser below.

First, it’s hard to say how exactly this film is going to play out, meaning I wonder if it’ll be shot like a regular feature film, or similar to how they filmed CLOVERFIELD, in the first person POV. I don’t want to make that assumption simply because Abrams was involved in both projects, but the name may be a clue. Super 8mm film was the commonplace home film format back in the 1970s. Therefore, I wonder if the movie will be “shot” on 8mm film to add to authenticity of the story. It’d be a cop-out to shoot a movie taking place in 1979 with digital cameras but pretend it’s being shot on an old format. They can shoot it with current technology and digitally render it as aged or, what I’d like to see, shot on native 8mm film itself. We will have to wait for more details on SUPER 8 as they roll in, and stay tuned for bigger news as we approach the release date Summer 2011. Leave your thoughts below.

20th Century Fox wasn’t joking when they said that they wanted to put X-MEN: FIRST CLASS on the fast track as they have announced that KICK-ASS director, Matthew Vaughn, will be leading the project. Last week reports began to circulate that Vaughn was in talks to step into the directors chair as Marvel wanted to get started on this project quickly. They have even set a release date for the film to be June 3, 2011. Bryan Singer (X2, SUPERMAN RETURNS) was initially set to direct, but his obligation to JACK THE GIANT KILLER conflicted with 20th Century Fox’s plans. Right now, it is planned that Singer will produce X:FC and that some of the ideas for his X-MEN ORIGINS: MAGNETO script will be involved in the story.

Read more after the jump.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is supposed to be about the early years of Professor Xavier and his X-Men and also show some back story before he and Magneto became enemies. It sounds like a great idea and I really hope that they can pull it off. The main thing that scares me is the time frame. It gives Fox just over a year to have this movie ready for fan boys eagerly awaiting another good X-Men film. Can it be done in that short amount of time? I guess we will see.

There are a few skeptics that believe Whedon is only good a doing stories based on girl power because of his choice in character leads, however, I think some may be missing a huge point. All of Whedon’s shows have these big casts that seem to work really well together. You always have your main characters, but the rest are not completely overshadowed and add to the already great story. If only Marvel had a team with big names that also had awesome secondary characters? Oh wait, they do; The Avengers. He could be the absolute best choice for this project, but what does Jon Favreau think?

It’s nice to hear Favreau talk about Whedon in such a positive light. I’m a little shocked that he doesn’t know more about the certainty of the directors spot being the Executive Producer, but I guess that there is more to it than I’m aware of.

Whedon may not have the best resume in the eyes of some people to helm such a project, but fan boys all over the world are letting out a collective sigh of relief. Some might say that he has too many failed TV shows, i.e. FIREFLY and DOLLHOUSE. And his big screen film SERENITY wasn’t well received by critics, but this is something that needs to happen more often when it comes to comic book properties. Lets get a man or woman behind the lens that understands the genera. Once upon a time, Whedon was set to direct a Wonder Woman film, but creative differences between the writer/ director prevented that marriage from happening. Whedon has great history with Marvel Comics and has done some amazing work there. His run on ASTONISHING X-MEN was the best 25 issues of an X-Men title in 20 years as far as I’m concerned. Not to mention the collected twelve seasons of Buffy and Angel that he was apart of changed the way we looked at pop-horror. I definitely believe that he has the ability to write and direct a cast of this volume, which can be hard for some. Right now Zak Penn (X2, THE INCREDIBLE HULK) is set to write the screen play, but I have a feeling that if Whedon gets on board he will have something to say about that.

What do you think? Is this a good choice for the possible AVENGERS franchise? Post comments below.

Last week we reported that director Bryan Singer was not only set to direct X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, the story of the early years of the X-Men, but that he was being considered to return to the original franchise and helm X-Men 4 and possibly a Wolverine sequel. As with many of these types of early reports this was too soon to get excited about. It seems that 20th Century Fox enjoyed the script for XFC so much that they have put it on the fast track. This means that we could see the film hit theaters as early as a 2011 release. Singer is already attached to JACK the GIANT KILLER and would not have been able to direct XFC. Instead he is set to produce the film and a possible trilogy.

I knew that the news was too good to be true. Bryan Singer took the comic book movie genre to new heights with X-MEN and X2 and to see him return to that would have been a fan boys dream. I fear that all the other speculation surrounding Singer and other X-projects will follow suit. It seems to me that Fox is ready to put the X-Men back on top and the only way to do that is to hurry this project to theaters. With all of the hype around THE FIRST AVENGER CAPTAIN AMERICA, THOR and the eventual Avengers film Fox wants to put Marvel’s mutants back in the picture. I know that stories like this is what drives hype into a project, but sometimes I just wish I didn’t know these things. It’s such a sting in my comic book heart when I hear great news about a film just to have it taken away. I need a hug.

What do you think about this turn of events? Should Fox rush this project into production?

X-Men and X2 film maker extraordinaire Bryan Singer may have an even more on his plate for the future. It was reported in December that he would helm “X-Men First Class” a film about our merry mutants in their early years at Xavier’s school. We are supposed to see younger versions of Cyclops, Beast and Jean Grey for sure, as well as more back story on the relationship with Xavier and Magneto. There have also been reports of Singer meeting with Hugh Jackman about directing one of Jackman’s next pictures. Obviously, everyone suspects that it could be Wolverine 2.

In an interview with the LA Times Singer also spoke about meeting with Lauren Shuler Donner, the producer of the possible X-Men 4 film, in which she expressed great interest in Singer directing her film as well. “I wish I could be four people” said Singer about his involvement in these pictures “I could make everybody happy.” Right now he is set to direct Jack the Giant Killer which could affect his part in making X-Men 4. “Hold that one off for just a little,” requested Singer from Shuler Donner. “I’m fixated on the other one right now.” To which she replied “I will, I will, “I’m holding it open with high hopes. It’s totally different [from 'First Class'] and it will be so interesting for you.” I’m very excited that Singer is so interested in making more X-films. He seems to have a good eye for what needs to be done. Even more so, its great that the producers want him to do the films so much that they are willing to wait for him to become available. I think that I am able to forgive Bryan Singer for leaving the franchise in the first place if he makes all three of these possible X-Men related movies and brings that spark with him that made them so enjoyable.

When they say that “All good things must come to an end” most people really hope it’s not true. Times “I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters,”. This news doesn’t come as much of a shock because I feel that this is the kind of director that Nolan is. I’m sure that he doesn’t want his involvement with Batman to end up like Sam Raimi’s did with Sony and Spider-Man. It’s sad to think of his Batman time at an end, but opportunity has knocked on Nolan’s door again as he confirmed that he will leaving the dark, gritty world of Gotham City and setting up shop in Metropolis.

Last month we reported on some interesting news that Christopher Nolan was set to be a “mentor” in the process of re-booting the Superman franchise. Some weeks later, DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson said that Nolan’s involvement was nothing but a rumor. Now, in a third turn of events, it seems that Nolan has teamed back up with Batman Begins writer David Goyer to Shepard the Man of Steel to the big screen. “It’s very exciting; we have a fantastic story,” says Nolan “And we feel we can do it right. We know the milieu, if you will, we know the genre and how to get it done right.”. As far as his specific role in the project it would appear that he will just be producing the film and helping guide it down that right path. Goyer is working on the screen play, but no director, script details or lead actor has been released at this point. I wouldn’t worry though because news like this can spark the talents search for Superman at any day now. I do know that Brandon Routh’s (Superman Returns) contract as Superman ended sometime in the last few months so he is most likely out. Though, I do feel that he is a more than capable choice. We will see what details are to show up in the coming months and will keep you posted.

Now that we have heard is from Christopher Nolan himself, what do you think of his Superman involvement? Do you think that the Batman franchise could go on after he leaves the franchise? Post below.

Earlier this month we reported that Christopher Nolan was in talks to mentor the upcoming Superman franchise reboot. According to a report from MTV this has been debunked as a rumor. Deadline Hollywood first reported that Nolan would be involved in the reboot as a guide more or less and the buzz on the internet was soaring. DC head honcho Diane Nelson spoke with MTV about current changes going on at DC Comics and cleared the air on some of the hype out there on the web.

Read what she said after the jump.

When asked about whether or not The Dark Knight director would be involved with Superman Nelson said: “Wouldn’t you like to know!” and added a laugh. “We don’t have any plans about that, and as I’ve mentioned, in the coming months we’ll be making a lot of announcements about what our content plans will be,” she added. “But right now, that’s nothing but rumor — and we frankly don’t say a whole lot more about rumor than that, so…” It sounds like Christopher Nolan will have no involvement in the Superman project at this point which could be a blessing or a curse. We know he can do Batman, but Superman is the opposite side of the coin. The pressure to do one successful comic book franchise has got to be enormous, but to then be involved with, arguably, the most recognized superhero in the world could make even James Cameron nervous.

I’m a bit saddened that Nolan is not involved right now, but the future could hold something else entirely. I am perfectly fine with someone else making Superman their own and making it amazing. Plus, I would hate to see Nolan’s focus split while he is prepping a possible third Batman installment.

What do you think of this news? Would you like to see Nolan be apart of a Superman project?
