Every year at San Diego Comic-Con certain retailers offer what are known as “exclusives”. These items can be purchased only to people who attend the con and come in many forms such as action figures, comic books, posters, shirts, etc. These highly sought after items are very limited in quantity and require vast amounts of patience and sometimes money to acquire. About three months ago pictures surfaced of a set of Green Lantern figures that would be offered at the con from Graphitti Designs. They were to coincide with the Blackest Night and feature Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) as a Green, Yellow, Blue, Orange and Red Lantern. With something this popular it was going to be a huge task to get a full set and the series had a very low production run. Find out how low after the jump.

Now that we are back home from all the insanity that is known as Comic-Con we have begun to reflect on the best (and unfortunately worst) parts the SDCC. Overall the trip was a success. We were able to cover pretty much everything that we had set out to see. Like most trips, ours hit a few speed bumps along the way, but it gave us knowledge for next year, so the 2010 Comic-Con will be even better than this year! Continue reading for our recap on the best and worst of the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con.

Our first year at the San Diego Comic-Con has come to a close and we are still standing. After five days of exciting panels, a crowded convention floor, and tons of parties, we are flying back home and the first thing to do upon our arrival: take a nap. As much fun as the SDCC was, it was also very exhausting. Early mornings, late nights, and a packed schedule in between don’t leave much time for rest. We managed to blog about all the panels we attended, we twittered about our celebrity sightings, and photographed our journey along the way. We have a few more recaps to share with you before we get back to the daily grind of movie news, reviews, and everything else that has made Fanboyz.net a success. Thank you for following all of our coverage and we will see you next year in San Diego!

My third and fourth days at Comic-Con 2009 were very busy and kept me moving around all day and night. Since many of you have been following me on Facebook and Twitter, I’ve decided not to go through what all I did and saw. Instead, I have come up with something that will be extremely vital for a pleasent Comic-Con trip for anyone who goes for the first time. Here are my 7 Rules for Rookies:

One of the most original films hitting theaters this fall is Shane Acker’s 9. There has been a lot of buzz about the project, and from the information garnered at the panel, the buzz has been correctly given. The audience was presented with a relevant and insightful panel of the director Shane Acker, executive producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, and stars Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connolly. With some exclusive footage, interesting discussions, and a deeper understanding into the back story of the film, I left the panel hardly able to wait till September 9th.

Following the Comic-Con panel, AMC debuted the first footage from the highly anticipated miniseries The Prisoner. The footage gives us the basic premise and promises a truly incredible adaptation of the classic series. It is rare that a miniseries or television event gets such star power, considering Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen have both done incredible work. The 9 minute long clip gives us an understanding of what to expect from the story, although with so much mystery woven into the plot, we know there is much more then what we think we know. The Prisoner begins November 2009.

As soon as the line for Lost’s panel in Hall H was let in, Comic-Con workers handed out various items to fans. When I sat down I took a look at them: a pencil that says lostuniversity.org on it, a flyer with the same website but an awesome polar bear logo and information about Lost season 5 on Blu Ray, and a plain white poster that says, “Lost: The Final Season 2010″. I turned the flyer over and saw it had some written notes on the back including the name Professor Adam Nussdorf in need of a T.A and a phone number (818-824-6300). I called it and the message said to check back September 22.

Disney is showing their commitment to progress the film going experience by releasing some of their recent popular films in 3D, as well as taking a page from the past in developing a new fairy tale musical. Also, acclaimed Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki will have his upcoming film, Ponyo, distributed through Disney in America. We were treated to have Disney/Pixar’s John Lassiter moderate the panel which included directors of all the projects. It was one of the most anticipated panels this year, as Pixar always knows how to bring in the crowds with their award-winning films.

Friday was another awesome day at Comic-Con here in San Diego. We attended the Warner Brothers panel in Hall H which included appearances by Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Gary Oldman, Megan Fox, Josh Brolin, and more! We took as  many photos as we could so we could show you everything that we are experiencing. We have been blogging the convention  live since Wednesday and it has been non-stop action all day, every day. Friday was yet another day filled with crowds, excitement, and more. Check out our photos after the jump.

The one panel I was most excited for yesterday was for the televison show 24. Being a huge fan of the show I was anxious to see star Kiefer Sutherland who has played Jack Bauer for seven seasons on the hit Fox TV show. After waiting in a line that looked like it was never ending I finally made it in (although the panel had already begun so I am not sure how much I had missed.) Kiefer was there as well as Mary Lynn Rajskub who plays Chloe, Jack’s loyal techie assistant. Newcomers for the eighth season include Freddie Prinze, Jr who will play a field ops agent for CTU (Yes, CTU is back in season 8!) Also joining the cast is Katee Sackhoff who plays the wife and co-worker of Prinze Jr. (Only in the world of 24 would these kind of office relationships be acceptable.) The writers and producers of the show were there as well answering questions about the upcoming season. Continue reading for a full recap of the 24 panel at SDCC.

Comic-Con has been super hectic this year. Thankfully, Jeff and Jordan have been all over the place covering panels for our readers. I was at the Joss Whedon Dollhouse panel and Q & A yesterday and I wanted to give you a few tidbits of info. He lightly touched on a few topics for all fans, but nothing super in depth. One of the highlights for me yesterday was the first look at the comic-book adaptation Jonah Hex. Stars Josh Brolin and Megan Fox attended the panel and debuted the first trailer for the film which looks amazing! I usually don’t get overly excited but after yesterdays Warner Brothers panel I couldn’t help but be a little giddy. Jonah Hex is a western set in the south. Played by Josh Brolin ( No Country for Old Men) the movie is about a southern bounty hunter who goes on the hunt for a voodoo practitioner that is attempting to create an army of the undead, in an effort to liberate the south. The disfigured gunslinger is based upon a DC comic about a western anti-hero. Visually the movie looks incredible. I love the concept of the film, and although this is a lesser known character, WB is marketing this as a tent pole film.

Yesterday Warner Brothers put on a very impressive panel featuring many of their upcoming projects over the next year or so. One segment included the writers, director, and star of the upcoming horror movie reboot Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy Krueger himself, Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) answered questions from the fans and debuted the first trailer for the film. This movie looks freakin’ awesome! Haley makes the perfect Krueger and definitely takes over the role from Robert Englund amazingly well. Fans were treated to the first look at Krueger’s face which is impressive to see how the look of this horror icon has improved over the years.

Yesterday during the Warner Brothers panel in Hall H, the cast of The Book of Eli spoke about the film as well as upcoming projects. Gary Oldman, who played Commissioner Gordon Batman Begins as well as The Dark Knight told the audience of over 6000 excited fans that Batman 3 would be filming sometime next year for a release date the following year. That would mean we could potentially see the third Batman film sometime in 2011!? Jokingly Oldman then stated, “you didn’t hear that from me.” However we did hear it from him. There are no confirmed reports as to the validity of this statement. Oldman could possibly be blowing smoke but for the sake of every Batman fanboy out there we are going to assume the news may be true. And by assuming there is some truth to it – How awesome would a third Batman be in two years from now? We will have more on this story when it breaks. Stay tuned.

We posted the first teaser trailer yesterday for the new Denzel Washington movie The Book of Eli. Directed by the Hughes brothers, Eli takes place in the near future where Washington has to survive a cross country trek while protecting a book that could save all of mankind. Washington, along with co-stars Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis, attended the Hall H panel yesterday morning. Washington brought an energy to Hall H which really was missing from Thursday’s panel. The charismatic actor really entertained the audience by being humorous, humble, and genuine. I have an appreciation for an actor like Denzel Washington. You can tell he really cares about the projects he takes on and the individuals he works with. Also in attendance were Allan and Albert Hughes, the directors of Eli, who have previously brought us Dead Presidents and From Hell, among many other films.

Warner Brothers had set the bar fairly high with its previous panels of Where the Wild Thing Are, The Book of Eli, The Box, Jonah Hex and A Nightmare on Elm Street; all of which had very impressive footage along with great star power. However, as we all knew, Sherlock Holmes was the flagship for the WB panel this Friday morning at Comic-Con.

Richard Kelly, director of Donnie Darko and Southland Tales, is back with his third feature film, The Box. Starring James Marsden, from Superman Returns and the X-Men Trilogy, and Cameron Diaz, the film tells the story of a married couple in the mid 1970’s struggling to pay the bills when a mysterious man presents them with an offer. He leaves with them a box with a red button, that when pressed, will give them $1 million, but will cause the death of someone they do not know somewhere on the planet. Interesting premise, but the panel left the audience more confused then excited.

When I was a child, my favorite books were The Giving Tree, and Where the Wild Things Are. While I still believe a tree can make for a good co-star, Where the Wild Things Are seemed more suited for film. I have read many books and stories that have been adapted to movies, but none so dear to me as Wild Things. After sitting through an extended look at the film, my doubts and fears have been put to rest. The child in me was brought back to Max and his adventures with these marvelous creatures, and I can easily say I have never been so excited for a movie as much as I am for Where the Wild Things Are.

This year at Comic-Con, the two movies that appear to be gaining the most buzz are James Cameron’s Avatar and Tron. If you have been keeping an eye on all the “Flynn Lives” viral information they have been putting out for Tron, then you may know that at 9:30 PM EST last night we were all given a location to meet to begin this year’s Comic-Con viral game. Myself along with Alex Billington (from Firstshowing.net) signed up as a team and began what turned out to be an incredible and unforgettable evening.

Day two of San Diego Comic-Con was extremely eventful. The day began waiting in line to get into Hall H for a full day of panels and events. Unfortunately we were stuck in line with thousands of excited Twilight fans, all who were ready to see clips from the upcoming sequel New Moon. The Twilight panel was just one stop on a very long day which kicked off with director Robert Zemeckis showing us a 10 minute clip from A Christmas Carol. Next up was Tim Burton who introduced the world to his adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. He brought out surprise guest Johnny Depp who plays the Mad Hatter in the film. The audience went crazy when Depp took the stage. We tried our best to take photos but our placement in the hall was not the prime spot for good photography. Today, however, has been a great day for good photos and we will have those up for you later tonight.
