Apparently, Kevin Costner is seeing a resurgence in his career as a hot commodity in Hollywood as he is now in talks for a role in Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained. Recently the Dances with Wolves star was cast in the upcoming reboot for Superman Man of Steel. Now it it looks like he will be splitting his time between the films according to Deadline who broke this news. The story follows Django ( Jamie Foxx) who is a slave turned bounty hunter trying to rescue his wife from slave owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). Costner is in talks to play Ace Woody, who is a trainer for male slaves who fight one another in brutal competition for entertainment of “white” society.

There have been many Tarantino fans, including myself, that have been eagerly waiting for the Kill Bill director to deliver his take on a Spaghetti Western and with all of the big names mixed in it looks like he will make good. Costner is a great addition to the film being another seasoned vet of the biz and while we haven’t been wowed by much from him lately he always gives a grade A performance.

A few more casting tidbits have rolled out for the upcoming Superman feature Man of Steel. Hot of the news Russell Crowe had signed up to play Jor-El, Superman’s father, Deadline is reporting Julia Ormond has joined the cast to play Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother. I hope we get to see a good amount of Kal-El’s parents on Krypton, that’s something I’ve felt a lot of the movies have lacked. Obviously, Kal-El is found by the Kent family who raise them as their child, but I hope we see what his home planet is like and how different the culture is from ours. Along with the casting news of Ormond, we’ve also been hearing that Christopher Meloni, famous for his starring role on the hit TV show Law & Order: SVU, is in talks to play an unspecified role in the film. While we don’t know what role it is, Deadline is also reporting it’ll be opposite Henry Cavill, Superman himself. Deadline is also stating it’s a major role, so could it be he’s going to be Lex Luthor? He definitely has the look, and his character on the NBC show really highlighted how deep he can go emotionally and psychologically. Even if we don’t see Lex, Superman will no doubt have his hands full with General Zod and Faora. Watch for more news on Man of Steel as we get closer to its December 2012 release date.

The Mummy star is currently in talks to play Evanora in Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful. Rachel Weisz joins James Franco and Mila Kunis in The Wizard of Oz prequel as the meaner, older witch sister of Theodora (Kunis). Sam Raimi is set to direct the feature and the story is supposed to be about the Wizard coming to Oz and how he became its ruler. Not too much information has been released on the story details, but I am really excited about the cast so far.

After months of speculation and a couple of false starts Joseph Gordon Levitt‘s role has been confirmed as Gotham City beat cop John Blake. Originally, there were conflicting reports of Gordon-Levitt’s casting as Alberto Falcone, son of Carmine Falcone, but there was never any official word from Warner Bros. Marion Cotillard was long believed by fan boys to be in the mix to play Talia al Ghul, daughter of  Ra’s al Ghul, and I think that could have been a great pick. Unfortunately, in a press release from Warner Bros. it seems that is not true.

MARION COTILLARD AND JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT CAST IN CHRISTOPHER NOLAN’S  “THE DARK KNIGHT RISES”

BURBANK, CA, April 19, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”

The director stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

It seems that the roles for both of these actors seem to be a bit small. For all of the hype and speculation around the addition of Joseph Gordon-Levitt it’s, somewhat, disappointing for him to be cast as a character that appears to be insignificant. But who knows, John Blake could kill Batman in the movie. Now, the boys over at SlashFilm have a theory that Marion Cotillard‘s character, Miranda Tate,  could be a bait and switch in the film and that she could actually be Talia trying to get close to Bruce Wayne for revenge. I like that idea a lot. It would totally be something that an al Ghul would do and it could be a great twist for the audience.

Michael Shannon has been cast in Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel as, who we can assume to be the main villain, General Zod. Shannon has spent his time most recently on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, but has been in great films like Pearl Harbor and Revolutionary Road. There had been much speculation that Viggo Mortensen would play Zod, but that was later debunked. I have enjoyed Shannon if the few roles that I have seen him in and look forward to his portrayal of the Kryptonian General.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released a press statement about Michael Shannon as General Zod and that the title of the film had been changed to “Man of Steel“. Zack Snyder also had this to say:

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

It is nice to know that we will actually have someone for Superman to fight in this picture and not just something to hit. Shannon joins Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

The Social Network actor Josh Pence has been officially cast in the upcoming Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises. There’s been a small trickle of actors and actresses signing on for the final Batman film, but this one is pretty substantial. As you may remember, actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt was cast to play a role that as of yet has not been officially named. Joining Pence and Levitt are also critically-acclaimed actress Anne Hathaway and Inception breakout hit Tom Hardy. There’s a lot going into this project, and I think we are going to get Nolan’s biggest and best project yet. Topping The Dark Knight and Inception will be tough, but it might be possible for Nolan, especially considering who Josh Pence will be portraying in The Dark Knight Rises.

According to the report, Josh Pence will be playing Ra’s Al Ghul in the film. As you should recall, Ra’s Al Ghul was played by veteran actor Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, but at the end of the film died as the elevated train crashed in front of Wayne Tower. While some have speculated he in fact survived the crash, the Ra’s we are getting in the upcoming movie is a young Ra’s Al Ghul. Could this mean Nolan and company are going to include the Lazerus Pits that reduce people’s age? No, probably not. Some sources cited in the report say he’ll play Ra’s Al Ghul 30 years prior to the events of the series. This could indicate that actress Marion Cotillard, who has also joined the cast, will play Talia Al Ghul, his daughter. Between Ra’s, Catwoman and Bane, fans hopefully will get a coherent and action packed final installment of arguably the best superhero adaptation of all time.

Here is some great casting news to start the week off right. The LA Times is reporting that Amy Adams will play Lois Lane in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. Adams, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for The Fighter, has signed on to play Clark Kent’s love interest opposite Superman himself, Henry Cavill. “There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

Amy Adams is the perfect choice to take on the role of Lois Lane. The Academy Award nominated actress has created an impressive resume with films like Doubt, Julie and Julia, Sunshine Cleaning, Enchanted, The Fighter, and is currently working on Disney’s new Muppets movie.

Zack Snyder is currently promoting his film Sucker Punch that hit theaters this weekend. He declined to comment on what kind of presence Lois Lane will play in his Superman revival. Actress Kate Bosworth most recently played the character in Bryan Singer’s Superman: Returns from 2006. Here is hoping Adams can turn in a performance that is far superior to Bosworth’s stiff, boring, and uninspired role.

This weekend Variety reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt had been cast in The Dark Knight Rises as Alberto Falcone. Now, conflicting reports from just as reputable a source, EW.com, is saying that this is not true. According to EW a source close to the project says that the information is “incorrect”.

This is like trying to decide whether your Mom or  Dad is right. Obviously, both of these sites are very credible, so it boils down to if you believe “insiders” or “sources”.

The Inception actor has been causing a lot of buzz in the fan boy world since he has been confirmed for a role in The Dark Knight Rises.  Many had their own thoughts on who Joseph Gordon-Levitt would play in the sequel to The Dark Knight ranging from The Riddler, Hugo Strange or even a Joker replacement.

I know how ridiculous that last one sounded, but when they announce an actors involvement in a picture then fail to reveal his role the mind wanders. Variety is saying that insiders on the project are confirming that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone, Carmine Falcone’s son. Alberto is also known as the Holiday Killer from Batman: The Long Halloween as he is obsessed with killing targets on different holidays.

This is a great direction to go with in the Christopher Nolan Batman-verse as it links characters from Batman Begins and brings us another more realistic villain for Batman to engage.

At this point, we still do not have a villain, but the rumor mill is churning. Many feel that General Zod will be a player in the film, however, nothing has been confirmed. Viggo Mortensen is a rumored candidate for the role with real  information to back it up.
