At the beginning of the month we reported that a script  for a Wolverine sequel had been finished and was set to start shooting in 2011. The film is supposed to pull from Chris Claremont’s and Frank Miller’s comic that takes place in Japan and, as I recall, doesn’t have Sabretooth in it. io9 reports that Liev Schreiber had dinner with Hugh Jackman who has read the first draft of the script and seemed ” really excited”. At this point there is no director attached and the cast remains a mystery for the time being. So, will Liev Schreiber be in the sequel?

There are unconfirmed reports on the web that Angelina Jolie has left the cast of the planned sequel to Universal Pictures Wanted. In a report from New York Magazine Jolie has pulled out of the project and Universal has opted to cancel the film rather that recast the role of her character Fox. Apparently, Jolie is already gung ho about starring in an upcoming sci-fi thriller known as Gravity. As of this point there is very little known about that project other than it may be directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men).

Several names got dropped today by The Heat Vision Blog concerning the actors being looked at to play Captain America in the upcoming First Avenger: Captain America movie as well as The Avengers. I usually yawn when it comes to these rumors on casting, but a few of the names listed really caught my attention. Screen tests are taking place for the role of Steve Rogers this week, and some of the names have either already tested or are expected to test. Actress Penelope Cruz has reportedly joined the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie which is being directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine.) Reports from THR confirm that Cruz is in talks to play a role in the fourth Pirates movies titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. There are no details yet as to the character Cruz will play, but she will star opposite Johnny Depp, who is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Actor Tim Robbins has joined the cast of Green Lantern along side Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Peter Sarsgaard. Robbins will play Senator Hammond who is the father of the movies villain Dr. Hector Hammond (Sarsgaard.) In the comics Senator Hammond has the ability of psychic powers. The cast for director Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern just keeps getting better. With the addition of Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River) this cast just keeps getting better.

After years of speculation on whether or not we would ever see a new Conan movie it was announced last year that we would get a chance to see the great warrior of  Cimmeria. News had broke last week that actor Kellen Lutz (Twilight) was a contender to play the lead in the re-boot of Conan. It turns out, however, that Star Gate Atlantis star Jason Momoa gets the nod.

Rumors had been all over the web that Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) had been tapped to play the great foe of the Green Lantern’s Sinestro. GL director Martin Campbell sat down with MTV during a press junket to talk about his latest film Edge Of Darkness and Campbell put that rumor to rest and also gave out some other information as well. We know that Blake Lively and Peter Sarsgaard have been put in the mix and now it sounds like Mark Strong may be apart of the selection as well.

Could Avatar’s Stephen Lang play the X-Men’s favorite mutant from the future, Cable? Well, he definitely looks the part and judging by his performances is such films as Tombstone, Gettysburg and this holiday seasons Avatar he also has the chops. With 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film franchise in limbo right now Cable could be the shot in the arm that the fans need to get interested again, or at least that’s what Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld thinks.

TMZ is reporting that actress Brittany Murphy has died at the age of 32 after suffering cardiac arrest. The actress who starred in movies like Clueless, Just Married, Don’t Say a Word, and 8 Mile was rushed to Cedars-Sinais hospital in Los Angeles Sunday morning after her mother discovered her unconscious body. A few weeks ago we were reporting the latest on the Spider-Man 4 casting rumors which included a trio of female choices for the role of Black Cat. Today the new casting rumor floating around the net is that actor John Malkovich has been tapped to play the villain Vulture in the fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise. Vulture is a nemesis of Spider-Man who is an elderly enemy created by Stan Lee in the Spider-Man comic books. Vulture has sharp wings which he uses to attack Spider-Man as they both fly through the air.

MTV caught up with Renner at the Independent Film Gotham Awards where The Hurt Locker won various awards including Best Ensemble Performance  and Best Feature. The guys at ObssesedWithFilm.com found this story via Variety’s news link, but mysteriously it vanished shortly after they posted. Maybe the news wasn’t supposed to break this early or maybe this is not confirmed yet. Either way it’s just another Thor scoop for fans to get excited by.

National Treasure’s dynamic duo, Nicholas Cage and director Jon Turteltaub, are teaming up to bring us a live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Fanboyz.net has the first promotional photos featuring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel. Based on the poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and later the animated short in Fantasia, Sorcerer’s Apprentice tells the story of a young wizard in training, who causes problems for his master when a spell on a broomstick goes awry. However it looks like this story deals mostly with a wizard training a young man in preparation of fighting evil in New York. Check out the scans below.

With the news breaking last week that Hugh Jackman would not be returning to host the Academy Awards the hosting position was vacant and the possibilities were endless. We are able to report today via LA Times that the Academy has tapped actors Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as co-hosts for next years broadcast. Martin has hosted the annual show twice before, however this would be a first time gig for Baldwin. After the news broke Martin responded by saying: ” I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”

Lord of the Ring’s Ian McKellan who played Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy recently spoke with Sci-Fi Wire about the upcoming Hobbit movie. In fact, he did more than just talk about the project – he talked about the script which he has read. If you don’t already know Guillermo del Toro will direct the film which was co-written by Peter Jackson. McKellan did say that Jackson has written the part of Gandalf specifically for the actor who is expected to reprise his role in The Hobbit. Even at 52 years old, actor Bruce Willis is ready to take on the role of John McClane, yet again. Willis was recently quoted saying, “I would love to do another one but they better get it done soon, what with the march of time and all that I’m not getting any younger.” The actor last took on the role of New York cop John McClane in 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard which was the fourth film in the popular franchise. Willis took on the role of the foul mouthed, rule breaking super cop in 1988, reprised the role in Die Hard 2 in 1990, and returned once again in 1995’s  I am a huge Die Hard fan, and although I felt the fourth film was mediocre at best, I would like to see a fifth movie just to fulfill my love of this franchise. Sherlock Holmes will not hit theaters until this Christmas and Warner Brothers is already planning a sequel. According to the Risky Biz Blog (via THR) Warner Brothers has hired writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney who previously penned Justice League: Mortal and Paper Man. The studio has apparently also been in talks with Brad Pitt to join the sequel as Holme’s nemesis Moriarty. This is all speculative at this time as Warner Brothers has yet to ink a deal for the actor. It would be great to see yet another high profile actor join this project which has now become a possible franchise.

Ebay will be hosting an auction beginning on September 17th for two tickets to the premiere of Iron Man 2; as well as a meet-and-greet with actress Scarlett Johansson. The blonde beauty is playing the villain Blackwidow in the sequel to Iron Man from 2008. Director Jon Favreu has returned to the director’s chair along with stars Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, and newcomers Mickey Rourke and Don Cheadle. You can expect this auction to fetch big bucks and all money earned will go to Oxfam America, a charity that finds solutions for hunger and poverty around the world. How much would you pay for this opportunity?

He has arguably played one of the most fascinating villains on screen in recent years and he will once again take on another role as a villain. Actor Christoph Waltz, who has received critical praise for his role as Col Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, will return to the big screen as the villain in The Green Hornet. Due in theaters next year, The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz and is being directed by Michael Gondry. Waltz will be playing the villain Chudnofsky in the big screen adaptation of the comic book which is due in theaters December 17, 2010.
