UNCHARTED Movie? Is it actually happening?

Seriously? We constantly hear rumors about comics and video games turning into movies but this Uncharted movie seems to be getting a little crazy. First, it couldn’t keep a director. Then there was the twitter campaign by Nathan Fillion to be Nathan Drake. Then they said “the actual video game didn’t have much there aside from a concept and a name.” This wouldn’t be the first time a game movie had nothing to do with the franchise. Tomb Raider wasn’t anything like the games and neither was Max Payne. Speaking of Max Payne, Mark Wahlberg is going to be our hero, Nathan Drake. Goodfellas’ Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci are rumored to be Nathan’s dad and uncle. Neither Drake’s dad or uncle are in the games so I’m already predicting that Sully who is Nathan’s older thief friend is going to be confused as being his uncle already making the movie completely wrong. This just doesn’t look like it’s going to turn out to be anything like the award winning video game series…which plays like a movie already. Ok, I’ll just say it, this doesn’t need to be made into a movie. It’s going to be terrible anyway. They’ve already lost the charm of the franchise by not using a protagonist who looks fun, humorous and witty but using someone who constantly looks confused because he can’t wrap his head around the idea that the trees are the killers. I don’t think I’ve seen his face change expressions since 2008.

In this clip from an MTV interview with Mark Wahlberg promoting his new film The Fighter, he confirms that a script is being written by David O. Russell. Oh, he also messes up a pun.

Now for some good news! It’s almost the end of the year and that means on December 11th, Spike TV is going to be doing their annual Video Game Awards (VGAs) and that’s a pretty big event for video games. They get alot of air time to show off their skills by being nominated and some winning awards for their great games. It’s also a time where developers show exclusive new teasers and trailers for the next years upcoming titles. This year Sony says they are going to show an “exclusive PlayStation 3 reveal” the day after the awards. It must be a big title if they think they can show it the day after. I guess they want the Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City trailers to sink in before they blow our minds with what is heavily rumored to be Uncharted 3.

What do you think about this? Let’s say I’m outraged over the movie news. I’m super excited for Uncharted 3!
