Will Smith Confirmed for Third MEN IN BLACK

Deadline has reported that Will Smith has signed a deal to reprise his role as Agent J in a third MEN IN BLACK film.  Set for a May 25, 2012 release the new installment of the franchise will be shot in 3D. Tommy Lee Jones is apparently working on a deal and it seems that Josh Brolin is also in the cast. We all remember what it was like when we saw the first MIB in 1997 and what it was like to see such and interesting take with aliens that live on Earth. Sadly, 2002′s MIBII was such a let down that I thought Will Smith would never grace us with his shades again. Sure, it made a lot of money, but it didn’t even feel like the same universe. Even Will Smith’s song wasn’t as good. I wonder why we need a third picture?

Apparently, the 3D film will have to do with some sort of time travel. Josh Brolin is set to play a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones Agent Kay and the picture will take place in 1969. Original director Barry Sonnenfeld is on board to come back and helm the project as this looks to be Will Smith’s next film since SEVEN POUNDS in 2008. Again, I’m not sure what we need with another MIB, but I am a sucker for time travel. Whether the concept is done good or bad it always makes for a great discussion. I, like most people, think that Will Smith is awesome. He has a few blemishes in his movie choices, but I always give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe MIB3 can be a good bookend to the franchise?
