Check Out these Books: Week of March 24th

store1

Comic book fans have known for years that Wednesday is a sacred day. The day that our favorite titles break loose from the gates of heaven and rain down upon us. Every week there are ups and downs, highs and lows. It would be nice to get some direction in a sea of series that can easily over take any fan boy. I cannot say that my taste is better than anyone else, but I can tell you what I like.  I may even tell you what I don’t like. These are a few suggestions from this past Wednesday.

Check out these books after the jump. Uncanny X-Men, Nemesis, and Green Lantern.

Uncanny522a

Uncanny X-Men # 522

The story thus far:

The X-Men are no stranger to the effects of losing a team mate. Mutants have more than there far share of casualties, but when they lost what many believed to be the heart of the team we didn’t know what they were going to do. Kitty Pryde sacrificed herself when an alien race launched a large projectile at the planet Earth. She used her powers to phase the immense through our home world and was consequently bonded to it as it hurled through the cosmos.

It was very sad when Kitty Pryde was stuck inside basically a giant bullet in space. The mechanics of her staying alive in there for months are ridiculous, but make for a great reintroduction. This issue was told beautifully. The build to this story was a pleasant surprise. If you haven’t been reading Uncanny X-Men or X-Men Legacy I suggest that you do. However, when a lost team mate comes back or is resurrected there are always consequences. What will Kitty’s be?

Nemesis

Millar & McNiven’s Nemesis # 1

I know, its a ridiculous name for a comic but Marvel really wants you to know that Mark Millar wrote this. I’m on the fence about this particular comic. It’s only issue number one so I will try to give it the benefit of the doubt. Apparently, the main character is the only super villain in this world. He targets high ranking law officials and makes their lives hell. The first issue was entertaining and it did leave me wanting more, but it is just the usual stuff that we get from the creator of Wanted and Kick-Ass .

Green Lantern # 52

The story thus far:

Spinning out of the major cross over from DC Comics Blackest Night black rings have descended upon the universe and are raising the dead in the name of Nekron. Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps are the two main title cross overs in this monumental epic. GL and GLC we get more in depth when it comes to some of the detail from the main story. In the last issue of Blackest Night we learned the secret that the Guardians of the Universe were keeping and that secret gave birth to a new light.

Sinestro has been given a power upgrade, but is it enough to help battle Nekron? In the final tie in before the Blackest Night story ends we learn of the creation of each light and get a glimpse at the significance of the animal avatars that represent them. Almost every tie in for the BN has been a great read. There were a few flops, but all in all it has been a fun ride. The story wraps next week and I cannot wait to see the what the out come is.
