Check Out These Books: Week of February 24th
Comic book fans have known for years that Wednesday is a sacred day. The day that our favorite titles break loose from the gates of heaven and rain down upon us. Every week there are ups and downs, highs and lows. It would be nice to get some direction in a sea of series that can easily over take any fan boy. I cannot say that my taste is better than anyone else, but I can tell you what I like. I may even tell you what I don’t like. These are a few suggestions from this past Wednesday.
Check out these books after the jump. Flash: Rebirth, Nation X and New Avengers.

Flash: Rebirth # 6
The story thus far:
Barry Allen died years ago after he sacrificed himself to save the entire universe. 25 years later he has returned and it is not all good news. His energy was tied to the mysterious “Speed Force” that links all speedsters and the affect of his resurrection will be felt by all. But is someone pulling his strings?
Writer Geoff Johns did such a great job with Green Lantern: Rebirth that he had only his own shoes to fill. The story had been very entertaining save for the fact that it was competing with Johns other event Blackest Night. Unfortunately for Barry Allen and the rest of the speedsters their story got a bit lost in the mix. I have enjoyed this story, but the end does get ruined in one of the BN cross overs. If you hadn’t read Blackest Night Flash #3 than you will be ok. Overall the series was a good read.

Nation X # 3
Since the day that almost all of the mutant population lost their powers the remnants of the species has been struggling to survive. Scott Summers (Cyclops) has become more than just the leader of the X-Men he has become the leader of a people. The surviving mutants that have sided with the X-Men are currently living on Magneto’s former asteroid base, now named Utopia, just off the coast of California. Aided by Namor and even Magneto himself the X-Men still have their hands full.
The Nation X title has been a nice read. It is a series of short stories that have focused on three different mutants on the island each issue. I have really enjoyed these shorts because they are telling tales from some of the mutants that have gotten lost in the major cross over. Former X-Men like Jubilee have had some great moments while current members such as Armor get a place to shine. The series is not important to the main titles like Uncanny X-Men or X-Men Legacy, but it does give us a fresh look on the happenings of others.

New Avengers # 62
The story thus far:
Norman Osborn has lost his mind…again. He has come to the conclusion that Asgard, home of the Norse Gods, must be destroyed. It is true that the kingdom of the gods is placed over American soil in Oklahoma, but that is no reason to attack. First, however, Osborn still has those pesky New Avengers to deal with.
Osborn has his goons taking on the New Avengers for the umpteenth time so that they do not interfere with his plans. Plus, they have been a pain in his ass since he has taken over power of S.H.E.I.L.D. There is just one major problem that he didn’t plan for, Steve Rogers is back. The original Captain America is back and he is not going to stand for a mad man trying to destroy his friend Thor’s home. This title is a tie in with the main series Siege. New Avengers has been consistently well written since number one and has been just as good as a tie in for past cross overs like Civil War and Secret Invasion. The big questions I have is what will happen in the fall out from Siege for the team and where will that leave Steve Rogers.
