Rumor:’Wanted 2′ Canceled, Angelina Jolie Leaves Project?

There are unconfirmed reports on the web that Angelina Jolie has left the cast of the planned sequel to Universal Pictures Wanted. In a report from New York Magazine Jolie has pulled out of the project and Universal has opted to cancel the film rather that recast the role of her character Fox. Apparently, Jolie is already gung ho about starring in an upcoming sci-fi thriller known as Gravity. As of this point there is very little known about that project other than it may be directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men).

If this rumor pans out it may be the best for everyone involved. Wanted was a fun film for most viewers and got some light shed on a comic book property that was less known. Though, the movie have very little to do with the book and doesn’t have a sequel to it. The names are the same and some of the character stuff, but other than that the two stories are completely different. I know that the comic book world was in an up roar about the blatant changes to the story and a lot of that aggression was pointed at series creator Mark Millar for endorsing such a drastic change to his story.  I would guess that if Jolie leaving is true it is because the script was crap. If you remember, her character dies at the end of the film. When director Timur Bekmabetov announced that they were going to make a sequel he did say that Jolie’s character would return despite her getting shot in the head. I was not interested in a second film. After I got past my fan boy anger about the changes from book to screen I let myself enjoy the film. I think that we said all we need to say about the “fraternity of assassins”and we can all move on.
