Has the announcement that the Spider-Man movie franchise will reboot set in yet? No? Than we have some good news that should make you feel better. Ultimate Spider-Man writer extraordinaire Brian Michael BendisĀ  posted on his Twitter that he “Just spent a very interesting morning at Sony with the entire spidey movie team!! Very very cool stuff!!”. For Spider-Man movie fans that do not read comic books this is very, very good news. Nobody writes Spider-Man like Bendis. He is definitely the guy you want Sony to be speaking to about the Spider-Man reboot.

Years ago a few comic book writers were charged with the task of reinventing the wheel when it came to Marvel Comics. The established Marvel Universe had 60 years of history at that time and Marvel wanted to attract new, younger readers. Enter the Ultimate Universe. In this world you had pretty much all of the house hold names like Spider-Man, The X-Men and the Fantastic Four, but there origins and stories were tweaked for a new generation. Instead of Peter Parker being a reporter for the Daily Bugle he was the web designer. How does this fit in with the reboot? Well, director Marc Webb has said that he wants to take Peter Parker back to high school and have a younger Spider-Man and in the Ultimate U that is exactly where Parker is. Also, Webb will want to re-imagine the villains that we have already seen, which is what the Ultimate U has done.

Sony Pictures having a meeting with the man that helped create a new direction for Spider-Man in comics is exactly the right step to re-making a new franchise. If you’re a fan of Spidey but have been out of the loop Ultimate Spider-Man is a great staring point. It’s not your dad’s Spider-Man, it’s almost better.I always felt that they made Peter graduate too quickly in the films. Some of the best Spider-Man stuff is Peter balancing school, work, Aunt May, MJ and still managing to be a hero. We didn’t see him struggle with his home life because he moves out half way through the first movie. It’s great to see him get picked on at school daily, but be idealized by those same people as our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Right now, what Marc Webb has said about his ideas for the franchise has got me interested, but Bendis meeting with Sony has this fan excited.

Those who have read the Ultimate Universe what do you think? Those who haven’t post questions below.
