Check Out These Books: Week of February 8th
Comic book fans have known for years that Wednesday is a sacred day. The day that our favorite titles break loose from the gates of heaven and rain down upon us. Every week there are ups and downs, highs and lows. It would be nice to get some direction in a sea of series that can easily over take any fan boy. I cannot say that my taste is better than anyone else, but I can tell you what I like. I may even tell you what I don’t like. These are a few suggestions from this past Wednesday.
Check out these books after the jump. New Mutants, Adventure Comics and Batman and Robin.

New Mutants #10
The story thus far:
The New Mutants was a series in the early 80′s about a team that could one day become X-Men. We have recently had a reboot of the title with most of the original members being another tier in the X-Men ranks. So far, they have confronted old enemies and picked up past members. The over goal of the series hadn’t been introduced until now.
I read all of the X-titles. If it has a mutant in it, I read it. When this series restarted it was kind of slow. However, I was happy to see the characters that I enjoyed so much as a kid and to see them all together again. This particular issue was a bright spot for the series because we learned what Cyclops intentions are for the former new X-Men. Obviously I am not going to spoil anything for you, but if your an EX X-fan craving a book with potential check out this one.

Adventure Comics #7
The story thus far:
Adventure Comics is a restart to and older series that mostly showcased Superman. Since Superboy’s resurrection he has been the majority of the focus so far. The book is a great way to have stories that exist outside of current continuity, but that can have effects on main story lines.
There had been two Blackest Night tie ins already in the series, both of which starred Superman Prime. This one spun directly out of Blackest Night #5 and shows the influence of the Black Lantern ring on our Superboy. There is a cool fight with Wonder Girl and an interesting way to deal with Black Lantern Superboy. The run is only on issue seven, but has been a fun one. It’s too early to tell if the series can hold up, though I think it has the chops.

Batman and Robin #8
The story thus far:
Bruce Wayne is “dead”. The first Robin and former Nightwing Dick Grayson has taken on the mantel of the Dark Knight along with Bruce’s son Damian as the new Robin. Dick must keep Gotham safe while trying to give guidance to the son of the man that changed his life. Dick may not be what Bruce was, but he will do what he has to make sure that his spirit lives on.
This new generation of the Dynamic Duo is falling flat for this reader. It isn’t delivering on a lot of notes for me. As a fan I know that Bruce Wayne will be back someday and this story isn’t making me think otherwise. I don’t like how bratty Damian is as Robin or Dick’s inability to reign him in. I like how he is trying to approach this responsibility, but for some reason it’s just not doing the trick as a whole. In this issue we have been thrown a curve ball that seemed very forced. If you read the issue you will see what I mean. I have hope that the series can be good, but they need to find their way. So far the story is just mediocre.
