Penelope Cruz Joining Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Actress Penelope Cruz has reportedly joined the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie which is being directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine.) Reports from THR confirm that Cruz is in talks to play a role in the fourth Pirates movies titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. There are no details yet as to the character Cruz will play, but she will star opposite Johnny Depp, who is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Penelope Cruz was last seen on the big screen in the musical Nine, which happens to be the latest film from director Rob Marshall, the new director who has taken over the franchise from previous director Gore Verbinski. Cruz has lent her talent to movies like Sahara, Vanilla Sky, and Blow. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will begin production this summer in Hawaii with an expected release date of May 20th 2011.
