Red Skull Confirmed as Captain America Villain

The upcoming Captain America movie now has a villain. Director Joe Johnston has been doing press for his new movie, The Wolfman, and recently spoke with ShockTilYouDrop about his superhero film. Johnston confirmed (via Comingsoon) that Red Skull will be the villain in the first film titled The First Avenger: Captain America which is scheduled for release on July 22nd 2011. Red Skull is a nemesis of Captain America who is a Nazi with a head that is just a red skull. Sounds like the Captain America movie is really coming together! I can’t wait until we finally hear who will play the title character. Until then, continue reading for more on Captain America.

Director Joe Johnston had this to say about the majority of the movie being set during WWII:

“Virtually the entire story except the bookends are in World War II because we all recognize we have one chance to tell the origin story of how he became Captain America, you can’t tell a modern story and then go back and tell the origin story. If you’re going to do it, let’s do it. Let’s do it first. Everyone wanted to tell an origin story. There was a version where it was a modern story and it didn’t work.”
