Conan the Barbarian to Be Played By Jason Momoa

After years of speculation on whether or not we would ever see a new Conan movie it was announced last year that we would get a chance to see the great warrior of Cimmeria. News had broke last week that actor Kellen Lutz (Twilight) was a contender to play the lead in the re-boot of Conan. It turns out, however, that Star Gate Atlantis star Jason Momoa gets the nod.

Previously played by California Governor and action god Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982′s Conan The Barbarian and 1984′s Conan The Destroyer , many fans had always hoped that an actor like Dwayne Johnson would take on the role as Robert E. Howard’s most famous creation. This is a unique choice because Momoa is not the body type that fans are accustomed to. Conan is always portrayed as this body builder type warrior of a man, while Momoa’s lean muscular build is a drastic look change. Some people that I have spoken to believe that the change in look may be to adjust to what the preference of women like in men today. Up until the last ten years or so men would try to bulk up and it was like the bigger the better. Now, lean muscle is in. It’s an interesting way to think about it.
Conan is a fictional fantasy character created by American author Robert E. Howard. He was born on a battlefield to a blacksmith. By the time he was fifteen he was already a feared, skillful warrior. He lived in the fictional Hyborian age which is set some time after the fall of Atlantis.
