Ghostbusters 3 to Shoot in 2010 for 2011 Release
There has been much speculation as to when we will get to see a third Ghostbusters movie. We have been reporting several times this year that the Ghostbusters team has been talking about returning to the big screen for a third film. We are now hearing via multiple news outlets that Harlod Ramis is planning on shooting next year for a possible 2011 release date. Ramis talked with Heeb Magazine and gave us some more insight on what we can expect in the near future. Check out what he had to say after the break.
“Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future … GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011 … Oh, and I have two one-of-a-kind Ghostbuster yarmulkes sent by fans.”
Hearing this news directly from Harold Ramis is promising. Hopefully we will hear more about GB3 very soon. This sequel is long overdue. The first Ghostbusters hit theaters back in 1984 and the Ghostbusters II arrived in 1989.
Three odd-ball scientists get kicked out of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists for money. They wise-crack their way through the city, and stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, one which will release untold evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters are called on to save the Big Apple.
