Stephen Lang As The X-Men’s Cable?
Could Avatar’s Stephen Lang play the X-Men’s favorite mutant from the future, Cable? Well, he definitely looks the part and judging by his performances is such films as Tombstone, Gettysburg and this holiday seasons Avatar he also has the chops. With 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film franchise in limbo right now Cable could be the shot in the arm that the fans need to get interested again, or at least that’s what Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld thinks.
On Rob Liefeld’s Twitter he had this to say:
” Dear 20th Century Fox, Please sign Steven Lang as Cable and put him in your next X-men film. Thanks, Rob”.
“Steven Lang’s performance as Quaritch in Avatar was brilliant. Just attach a cyborg arm to him and presto! he’s Cable. Perfect age too.”
The pictures above are from Avatar and the Ultimate X-Men’s Cable from an alternate world, which is not a fan favorite Cable, but looks eerily like Lang in the film. Lang is in great shape at about 50 years old, so he could probably keep up this level of physical fitness for another five years or so easily.Unfortunately, Cable’s back story is pretty convoluted and would take all kinds of build up to make it real. I’m not sure that they have the time to explain his origin before nature catches up with this perfect specimen of a man to play Cable. This is in no way anything that is being entertained as a real idea, but is just a great observation by Liefled. I would love to see this in a film. I would even set my geek standards aside for the origin to see Stephen Lang in this role. Maybe we should get a petition together?
Just a taste of his origin:
Cable was born Nathan Christopher Summers. The son of the X-Men’s Scott Summers (Cyclops) and his wife Madelyne Pryor (Clone of Jean Grey). Nathan gets a rare disease and must be taken to the future where he can be treated. He ages and returns to the past at a much older age (older than his father) and is a life long enemy of the villainous Apocalypse.

He looks like a great Cable. He even played a bit of a stone cold killer in "Public Enemies". Just seeing him like this makes me wish we had time to get a Cable story out there. I'm a huge fan of the whole Summers family.

in fact playing wolverine is what jump started jackman’s career
and stephen lang already has avatar under his belt
i wonder who else in the comicbook/superhero universe stephen lang would be great at,how about the punisher now there’s a badass!but i agree someone needs to sign him up fast for x-men4 movie. for an older guy(lang is 58)he oozes sex appeal!and cable is sexy!
CaBle to me is the best of the whole X-men movies theres alot of CaBle fans out there people just dont kno but there is ..
not bad meant to say xmen character n if they do make this movie hope they dont mess up like the other xmen movies// but caBle is a raw character..
