12 Days of Christmas: Day 1 – Elf

Taking a break from his “I appeal to half my demographic” films, Will Ferrell and director Jon Favreau teamed up to make the family Christmas movie Elf. Telling the story of an infant raised by elves at Santa’s workshop, Buddy decides to seek out his real father in majestic New York City. James Caan plays his skeptical dad, and the lovely Zooey Deschanel captures Buddy’s heart. Goofy Christmas humor and a family-friendly holiday appeal makes Elf a great pick for Christmas movie-watching this season.

I am a fan of Will Ferrell but i understand he does not appeal to a lot of people. However, Elf received positive reviews and sits at an 83% on Rottentomatoes. One of my favorite parts is how hokey the North Pole looks, especially the animals Buddy talks to. They are reminiscent of the classic holiday claymation specials. If you haven’t watched Elf I would recommend it this season.
