Movie News: Disney Sinks Captain Nemo; Director Rob Marshall Boards Pirates 4

Disney will not be moving forward with McG’s Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. McG (Terminator Salvation) just stepped down as director to focus on other projects. The big budget Disney adventure was set to begin filming early next year even though there was no finalized cast. McG had been seeking out Will Smith to star in the movie, but that never happened, so the movie was without a Captain Nemo. Variety is reporting that Disney stalled the project after McG left to helm Dead Spy Running for Warner Brothers and a new sitcom for NBC with Larry Charles. In other boat news Disney has found a captain to direct the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Chicago director Rob Marshall is now attached to direct the film, stepping in for Gore Verbinski who chose not to return.

Over the summer their was word that Rob Marshall may be stepping to to direct the fourth Pirates movie after Gore Verbinski droppped out of the project. Verbinski directed the first three movies but chose not to return for the fourth movie now titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

During a screening of Marshall’s latest film titled Nine, the director confirmed he would be directing the swashbuckling adventure reports Aint it Cool News. I am not sure if Marshall is really a good fit for this franchise but I do think he could put an interesting spin on the pirates tale.

I have never been a big fan of the Pirates movies (you can say what you want, but the first movie is the only one that holds water.) I do realize they have a huge following so I won’t rag on them too much. What do you think about Marshall directing Pirates 4? Can the guy who made Chicago and the upcoming Nine bring a big budget action adventure to the big screen? Can we expect a song and dance number maybe? Tell us what you think.
