The third Chronicles of Narnia story, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, doesn’t hit theaters until December 10, 2010, but the first photos have made their way online. Dawn Treader picks up shortly after the second book, Prince Caspian, as Lucy and Edmund are magically pulled into a painting, and join the Prince on his voyage to save Narnia yet again. Disney decided not to back this project, as Prince Caspian did not succeed at the box office. 20th Century Fox is releasing this film, and the photos are looking very true to the story. What would happen if the Ninja Turtles and Reservoir Dogs were put together to form one violent, weird movie. The answer is Reservoir Turtles which is the result of footage from the Ninja Turtles movie and the voice over from the Reservoir Dogs movie trailer. The mash up is pretty funny, and surprisingly fits perfectly with the characters on screen. Check out this clever video after the break.

As expected, The Twilight Saga: New Moon was number one at the box office this weekend with a smashing debut of $140 million. Opening on Friday the sequel to 2008’s Twilight broke the single day record previously held by The Dark Knight. Including its record breaking midnight debut New Moon earned $72.7 million on Friday besting the previous record of $67 million held by The Dark Knight. Challenging The Dark Knight for top three day opening, New Moon failed to defeat the superhero film from 2008 which still holds the record with $158 million. It also was unable to surpass Spider-Man 3’s opening weekend of $151 million set in 2007. However, sitting at the number three spot with $140 million isn’t too bad. Continue reading for a full breakdown of the weekend box office.

Hell must be freezing over. Kevin Smith was at the Twilight Saga New Moon premiere. Turns out that when you have a tween daughter you must subject yourself to film such as this. Although, I watched it with three other guys and didn’t have to. Check out this video as we learn, along with his daughter, her secret origin.

First, I have to preface my review with stating I have not read the books of the Twilight series. However, despite the growing popularity of the saga, it seems there are still a lot of people who have not read the books. Considering that, I approached the movie as a general moviegoer, and critique it as such. In the entirety of the movie series and books, New Moon probably fits in quite well with the story. As a movie by itself, it is not very well done though. Read the entire review below.

Disney will not be moving forward with McG’s Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. McG (Terminator Salvation) just stepped down as director to focus on other projects. The big budget Disney adventure was set to begin filming early next year even though there was no finalized cast. McG had been seeking out Will Smith to star in the movie, but that never happened, so the movie was without a Captain Nemo. Variety is reporting that Disney stalled the project after McG left to helm Dead Spy Running for Warner Brothers and a new sitcom for NBC with Larry Charles. In other boat news Disney has found a captain to direct the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Chicago director Rob Marshall is now attached to direct the film, stepping in for Gore Verbinski who chose not to return.

These images have been floating around on Twitter and I thought that they were awesome. The late, great Jack Kirby passed away back in 1994 and the collective comic book community was saddened. It is so awesome  to see that his influence still lives on and others are inspired by his work. I could not find the artist responsible for these images, but my hat is off to you on a job well done.

If this isn’t relevant news than I am not sure what is. NBC is reportedly developing a sitcom about a group of sci-fi fanboys who begin filming episodes of their favorite show after it is cancelled. Variety is reporting that the show will be directed by sitcom veteran Larry Charles who is no stranger to hilarious comedy. Charles most recently directed Sacha Baron Cohen in Bruno as well as Borat. His television credits include Seinfeld, Mat About You, and a recurring role on Curb Your Enthusiasm. McG (Terminator Salvation) will produce the show for the network which is calling the show a “prototype pickup.” Continue reading for more on this new show.

the-siege

This is exciting news for Marvel fans. Apparently, the “holy trinity”  of the Marvel U will be getting back together in this new crossover event. I know that most fans have become very tired of the big crossovers that Marvel has been doing in the recent years, and with good reason. It always feels like it’s just an attempt to boost sales on main titles along with the lesser known books, and fans are always hard pressed to spend that extra $2.99 on a ‘Cloak and Dagger’ crossover. But with Captain America, Iron Man and Thor coming back into the picture as a group to put the House of Ideas in order, this particular crossover may set the universe right.
