Will Smith and Charlize Theron Will Return for Hancock 2

We reported a couple weeks ago that the Will Smith superhero flick from 2008 would have a sequel. Director Peter Berg has now confirmed via MTV the news that he will return to direct stars Will Smith and Charlize Theron in Hancock 2. While the first Hancock was by no means a critic favorite, it did find an audience to the tune of $220 million at the domestic box office. A sequel was inevtiable with such a successful run for a movie which was based on an original character and script. Hancock starred Smith as the titular superhero who only becomes a hero after being forced to clean up his reckless, non-caring attitude. It was a different kind of superhero movie and a role that most people were not used to seeing Smith play.

The big reveal in the first film is that Smith and Theron’s characters are immortal gods who become vulnerable when near each other. Berg added that for the sequel we can expect the appearance of at least one more all-powerful god, but he won’t reveal who will play the role.

“We have [someone in mind],” Berg said. “I’m not gonna tell you who, but we have!”
