Box Office: Final Destination #1 Again During Slow Labor Day Weekend
The fall movie season has officially arrived. This weekend saw three new releases hit movie theaters; none of which were able to take the number one spot. Last weekends number one film, The Final Destination remained at the top spot for a second consecutive week. Newcomers All About Steve, Gamer, and Extract struggled to find an audience over the holiday weekend. Gerard Butler’s Gamer was the odds on favorite to win the weekend, but instead bombed with a number four finish of only $9.1 million. After opening at number one last weekend, the fourth Final Destination movie held on strong with another $12.3 million this weekend to take the top spot. It goes to show that the movie business has entered its slow season when the number one grossing movie only manages to make $12 million for a first place finish. After two weeks of release The Final Destination has grossed $47.4 million.
Second place went to Inglourious Basterds which pulled in another $11.6 million in week number three. The Quentin Tarantino World War II flick has already made $91.8 million.
Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper were unable to re create the box office success of The Proposal and The Hangover as their new film All About Steve raked in only $11.2 million from Friday- Sunday.
The number five spot went to District 9 which crossed the $100 million mark this weekend after it grossed another $7.1 million. For a film with a $30 million budget this is clearly a huge success.
Next weekend should continue the slow trend in business with the releases of Sorority Row and Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself.
