Back in the 1980’s, the best villains were Soviets. A prolonged Cold War with the USSR kept the world on edge. In 1984, the movie Red Dawn portrayed high school teens who struggle for survival after their small mountain town is invaded by the Reds. Today, Cuba and Russian communism is no longer the credible threat to national security it once was. Since the Red Dawn remake is going to take place in current times, the invading force has now been changed to the Chinese. Politics aside, it seems China would be most likely to put an occupying force on US soil, although the literal reality of such an action could be widely disputed. Pictures are floating at RedDawn2010, where people can upload pictures and news from the set and filming locations. Check out the pictures below.

Every so often, ever since video games became consoles for home use, leaps in technology advance the way we play. Some more then others, these changes typically follow behind the current technological trends. From the Atari, to the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Playstation to the Xbox 360, we see the direction we have been moving towards is one of immersion. Now, after systems like the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 allow users to shorten the gap between game and player, the next step is shaping up to be the highly anticipated Xbox add-on, referred to as Project Natal. Take a look at the system in action below.

With just under two months until the next Twilight movie hits theaters fans can enjoy this new set of banners courtesy of Yahoo. The three banners feature multiple characters from the cast of Twilight: New Moon. The banners are divided between the vampires, the wolf pack, and the Volturi. The banners are humorous to poke fun at if you’re not a fan of the franchise. But I won’t go there for fear of fangirl retaliation. Seriously. Check out the banners after the jump.

Even though it will be hitting theaters next April, the teaser trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street should get fans ready for Halloween. A lot of the footage from the teaser was shown at Comic-Con but there is some good horror gems in this sneak peek. The new Krueger, played by Jackie Earle Haley, stays closely hidden but as scary movies go, less is more. Robert Englund, the former Freddy, gave Hollywood one of the most iconic villains in movie history, so Haley has big shoes to fill. As the series went on, the death scenes and nightmares got more comical and childish, but I am sure audiences will get a good dark reboot. Get ready to stay awake after watching the trailer below.

Even with three new releases this weekend Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs held off the competition for a consecutive week in the number one spot. The animated flick stopped newcomers like Surrogates, Fame, and Pandorum from even getting  a chance to take that top spot. Cloudy held on strong, only dropping 18.8% with a total of $24.6 million. After two weeks of release this film has earned an impressive $60 million. Far behind Meatballs were the three other new releases which couldn’t even hold a threat to this animated movie. One of the greatest dreams of comic book fans is to be able to play as their favorite heroes/villains in video games. Activision has produced some great games in the past, and they created a follow-up to their hit Marvel: Ultimate Alliance with new selection of characters, teamwork based power attacks, and a popular storyline pulled from the comics. Did Activision succeed this time around? Read the game review below.

Sherlock Holmes will not hit theaters until this Christmas and Warner Brothers is already planning a sequel. According to the Risky Biz Blog (via THR) Warner Brothers has hired writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney who previously penned Justice League: Mortal and Paper Man. The studio has apparently also been in talks with Brad Pitt to join the sequel as Holme’s nemesis Moriarty. This is all speculative at this time as Warner Brothers has yet to ink a deal for the actor. It would be great to see yet another high profile actor join this project which has now become a possible franchise.

Does this picture anger you? Looking for a way to vent your rage? Created by Flameknight7, a modification (or mod) to the hit zombie shooter Left 4 Dead allows players to put a skin over some of the zombies. Now, when certain zombies come out to attack, they’ll look like the Teletubbies. This presents both a humorous take on the Xbox 360 game, and a terrifying look at what society would become if the Teletubbies ever turn on us. Check out the awesome video below.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs soared to the top spot of the box office this weekend bringing in $30.3 million making ‘Meatballs’ the third best September opening ever. This is good news to report after several weeks of poor box office results. With several newcomers challenging each other for box office gold, the animated kids flick easily topped it’s contenders for a number one spot. It certainly helped to have numerous screens showing the movie in 3D which means higher priced tickets. How did the rest of the weekend play out for new films like Jennifer’s Body, The Informant, and Love Happens? Continue reading for a full weekend box office break down.

If Jennifer’s Body is the direction that horror movies are headed then we may all be damned. After last week’s dismal Sorority Row I had higher expectations for a film that was written by Juno scribe Diablo Cody. I think those expectations may have been too high since Cody’s departure to horror is met with Juno like dialogue; but instead of the lovable Ellen Page, we are stuck with Megan Fox. The Transformers star is fun to look at but that novelty wears thin after two hours of her basically teasing the boys on screen, as well as those in the audience. Jennifer’s Body had potential to be a campy horror film, with a dose of light comedy, but instead it was never able to focus on what it wanted to be.
