First Look: Ryan Reynolds in Indie Movie ‘Buried’

Ryan Reynolds is best known for playing quirky humorous characters in movies like The Proposal and Wolverine; his new role in this indie flick Buried is a far departure from his usual roles. In Buried Reynolds plays the only character in this film by director Rodrigo Cortes. Buried is a very ambitious project about a man who is buried alive in a shallow grave in Iraq. Reynolds recently said in an interview that “…it’s just me, I’m the only person in the whole movie so, I don’t know, we’ll see. It’s either going to be, you know, the greatest, most experimental cool movie ever made or god knows what.” This project is an incredibly bold idea and to center a movie around a single character is challenging.

In Buried Reynolds plays Paul, a civilian contractor who is working in Iraq. One day he wakes up to find himself buried alive with a cell phone and a lighter in his possession. He uses the cell phone to attempt and reach someone who can rescue him. The situation that Paul finds himself in is deadly and as he fights a dying cell phone battery and lack of oxygen he must not panic as he has to find a way out of this situation. This is an incredible role for Reynolds to take on. I am very anxious to see how this film turns out. When we learn more about this film we will be sure to bring it to you.

He kind of looks like Tom Hanks at a quick glance

Interesting seeing how this concept is similar to the idea of Castaway. An entire movie with pretty much one man from start to finish. Hanks pulled it off. Not sure if Reynolds can.
