Big news today, the Walt Disney Company is going to purchase Marvel Entertainment Inc. for approximatly $4 billion dollars for its 5000 characters. These characters do include Spiderman, Iron Man and the X-Men. If you do the math that is about $800,000 per character. That’s a lot of moolah. In my talks today with many people I was shocked to hear the majority say that they are saddened by this news. I think that most people fell that this is the beginning of the end for Marvel movies as we know. I don’t believe so.

Sometimes it seems that so much of what we write is in regards to a sequel, a reboot, or a re imagining. This news story is unfortunately no different. In unnecessary sequel news it is being reported via Variety that Sylvester Stallone is planning on a fifth installment of Rambo. Stallone will be returning to the role of John Rambo as both star and director. He stepped back into the role in 2008’s Rambo and apparently wants to continue this franchise. The fifth time around will follow Rambo who is fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. I didn’t think the fourth Rambo really warranted a fifth movie but there is still a huge fan base out there. What do you think? Comment on the next page.

This project is still in the early stages of development according to The Hollywood Reporter. The big name stars were joined by director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer in Bad Boys which grossed $66 million domestically and the entire team returned for Bad Boys 2 which made $138 million in its domestic run.

Summer has finally ended. As Labor Day weekend approaches we begin a slow, painful descent into the lackluster fall movie season. May – August was a good run for the summer box office. Over one billion dollars in ticket sales isn’t too bad for one season is it? But all good things must eventually come to an end. The summer box office season has concluded this past weekend as the fourth Final Destination movie opened at number one. Titled The Final Destination (which makes me hope based on the title this will be the last film) was released in both regular and 3D formats with a strong $28.3 million debut. We can account the high opening weekend to the extra costs assessed with the 3D luxury. For a complete breakdown of this weekends box office continue reading.

If you could not get enough cave diving terror from the first film, The Descent: Part 2 looks to capitalize on the strong critical success the first installment enjoyed. I thought it was a very well done film with a good emphasis on story and character, as well as good scares. The follow-up teaser hints at some plot details, including Sarah (the sole survivor from the first film) returning to the cave. While I like movies that scare me without the jumpy movie techniques, everyone loves a good scary flick too. Check out the teaser below.

Here is probably yet another film that director Rob Zombie can add to his resume of some of the worst films ever made. That may be a presumptious statement but given Zombie’s track record I feel confident with that belief. Today the former rocker turned filmmaker released Halloween II, a sequel to his reboot from 2007. Reviews have been anything but positive including Roman’s review on the film. Zombie will now once again return to the director’s chair in a remake of the 1958 horror classic The Blob which starred Steve McQueen. Variety is reporting that the horror movie director will put his spin on the movie. Continue reading to hear what Zombie had to say about this.

USA Today is reporting that Spielberg chose the novel by Chrichton, who died earlier this year, to be next on his line-up of films to produce and possibly direct. Pirate Latitudes takes place in 1665 off the coast of Jamaica and is about “a daring plan to infiltrate Port Royal, one of the world’s richest and most notorious cities, and raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure.” The book from the late author is due in stores November 24th. Stay tuned with us as we will bring you more news as it is available.

Usually we wouldn’t run a poster for a movie that has already been released but this was so cool it has to be shared. I wish this would have been a more prominenet poster for the marketing campaign for Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. The poster is beautiful and the significance of the girl running is important to the movie. If you have seen the film then you know what I am talking about. Check out this poster after the jump.
