Ridley Scott to Direct Alien Prequel

When 20th Century Fox announced plans to make a prequel to 1979′s Alien, a lot of fans worried they would be in for the same poor treatment they received from the Alien Vs. Predator franchise. However, it was quickly stated that Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien feature, was coming back to produce the film. Scott nominated his daughter’s boyfriend, a commercial director named Carl Erik Rinsch, to helm the project, but Fox was not impressed. They sought Ridley to handle the project, and today it was announced he will in fact direct the Alien prequel.

Not much is known about the film thus far, but what we do know is that it will take place before the events of the first film. In the opening of Alien, a mining ship receives what they believe to be an SOS from a nearby planet and investigate, only to learn the planet was home to a terrifying species. More then likely, the prequel will deal with the people who first encounter the aliens that leads Ripley and crew to the system. Considering the success of the franchise and the fact that Scott is going to direct, there will no doubt be a lot of buzz circulating as filming begins. Do you think another Alien film is necessary?
