Sony to Adapt InFAMOUS Video Game into Movie

Another video game is being adapted into a full length movie according to THR. Sony Pictures is set to bring InFAMOUS, a video game from the Playstation 3 console, to the big screen in the near future. InFAMOUS was released this past May on the gaming platform and centers on bike messenger Cole MacGrath, who survives an explosion that destroys entire blocks of Empire City only to find he has new electricity-derived super powers. The game allows players to choose weather they use MacGrath’s powers for good or evil. Screenwriter Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard) pitched the idea to Sony and was selected to pen the film for the studio.

“What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I’ve come across that had a big idea and a character arc,” Turner said. “It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is.”

Since most movies based on video games usually are pretty bad I don’t have high hopes for this project quite yet. However, I am not going to rule out the concept since the idea sounds pretty original. Has anyone played the game? Leave your thoughts below!

Literally beat the game a week ago. Cool premise that plays well as a game…we’ll see how they adapt it to the big screen

I'm actually hoping for a different ending to the movie than the game. I enjoyed the ending of the game so this is something new for me but I don't think I'd enjoy it as much as a movie. I really wouldn't mind a massive rewrite only keeping the basic premise of the character.
