Comic-Con: Kiefer Sutherland Shows Fans Sneak Peak at Season 8 of 24
The one panel I was most excited for yesterday was for the televison show 24. Being a huge fan of the show I was anxious to see star Kiefer Sutherland who has played Jack Bauer for seven seasons on the hit Fox TV show. After waiting in a line that looked like it was never ending I finally made it in (although the panel had already begun so I am not sure how much I had missed.) Kiefer was there as well as Mary Lynn Rajskub who plays Chloe, Jack’s loyal techie assistant. Newcomers for the eighth season include Freddie Prinze, Jr who will play a field ops agent for CTU (Yes, CTU is back in season 8!) Also joining the cast is Katee Sackhoff who plays the wife and co-worker of Prinze Jr. (Only in the world of 24 would these kind of office relationships be acceptable.) The writers and producers of the show were there as well answering questions about the upcoming season. Continue reading for a full recap of the 24 panel at SDCC.
As promised, fans were treated to a five minute sneak peak at the eighth season of 24. Premiering next January, the show is back but this time is taking the action to New York City. I liked in this past season that the location moved to Washington, D.C. I was getting tired of Los Angeles being the center of terror, and a change of scenery was necessary to keep the show fresh. The clip we saw featured Jack in an apartment building when a man knocks on the door. He has been wounded and has an important message to tell Jack. There is going to be an assassination attempt on a United Nations member during a meeting today in New York. As usual, Jack explains he doesn’t work for the government any longer and can’t help. The man explains to Jack that his involvement is absolutely necessary. Jack calls Chloe, who is now working for the new CTU office. He informs Chloe of the threat and then the clip cut off. Fans went nuts for this!
After the clip the cast answered questions for fans about what we can expect this season on 24. The producers said this season will have a theme of “peace.” Not exactly sure what that means, nor do I know if I like the idea of an action show centering on peace, but Sutherland quickly rebounded by telling fans, “don’t worry, we will still blow shit up.”
I think the theme of peace centers around the UN meeting between the individual who is a target and the current U.S President (played once again by actress Cherry Jonesr.) Sutherland told fans that this season would be grounded in reality. The threat would be more realistic to the world we live in today. The threat this season will focus on a UN peace conference with the President of Iran. I am assuming that maybe the President of Iran is the target for assassination, but that is just a guess.
This panel was short, but still delivered fans everything they wanted to see. I am excited for season 8 of 24. The writers, producers, directors, and actors for this show really know how to give fans what they want to see. Check out the 8th season of 24 next January on Fox!
