Could George Clooney Be the Next Jack Ryan?

There could be a new name being added to the esteemed list of actors who have played the character Jack Ryan. George Clooney is in talks to reboot the franchise as the CIA operative previously played by actors Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. Jack Ryan is a character created by author Tom Clancy. Kim Masters from The Daily Beast had the following to say about this news: “Clooney also appears to be looking for his next commercial opportunity now that the Ocean’s franchise seems to be played out. A source says he expressed interest in playing Jack Ryan when and if Paramount attempts to revive the Tom Clancy series.”

If you haven’t checked out the films Ryan has been featured in you should go get them on Netflix. Alec Baldwin first took on the role in 1990′s The Hunt for Red October. Baldwin made a bad career move by choosing not to return to the role which went to Harrison Ford in 1992′s Patriot Games and Ford returned in 1994′s Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck took on the role in 2002′s The Sum of All Fears which was the last film in the franchise.

I think Clooney would be the perfect addition to this franchise. His style (and age) is closer to that of Harrison Ford which was the best choice for the role of Ryan. Clooney has never been attached to a big studio franchise film. Similar to good friend Matt Damon, a ‘Bourne’ type of movie would be a good career move.

What do you think about Clooney possibly taking on this role? I think that Baldwin, Ford, and Affleck were all good choices and Clooney would fit into that list quite well. Hopefully we will have more news on this as this story develops.
