Yahoo Movies has posted this new poster for Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant. A quirky comedy starring Matt Damon, The Informant hits theaters this September. I love the marketing concept for this film. The trailer is brillaint and the combination of Damon and Soderbergh is a perfect match. The film stars Damon as Mark Whitacer, a corporate whistle blower who thinks by bringing down large corporations that he is some type of secret agent. This movie looks clever and witty which is really refreshing to see in a time when movie theaters are filled with sequels and reboots. Check out the poster and be sure to check out The Informant in theaters this fall.
In Judd Apatow’s latest film, George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a comedian who has been on top for a while and has everything that he wants. Simmons gets diagnosed with a fatal blood disease and begins to rethink some things in his past. Among these things is the girl who got away, Laura. He hits a small comedy club where he meets Ira (Seth Rogen), a struggling comedian, and asks Ira to be his assistant and write him some jokes. Ups, downs, love and woe pack this comedy.
When 20th Century Fox announced plans to make a prequel to 1979’s Alien, a lot of fans worried they would be in for the same poor treatment they received from the Alien Vs. Predator franchise. However, it was quickly stated that Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien feature, was coming back to produce the film. Scott nominated his daughter’s boyfriend, a commercial director named Carl Erik Rinsch, to helm the project, but Fox was not impressed. They sought Ridley to handle the project, and today it was announced he will in fact direct the Alien prequel.
Joel and Ethan Coen are back with a new movie titled A Serious Man. Last fall the Academy Award winning directors brought audiences Burn After Reading. Before that was Best Picture winner No Country for Old Men, and it doesn’t appear these brothers plan on slowing down anytime soon. With A Serious Man the Coens appear to have created another dark comedy which is sure to confuse audiences. I am honestly not sure what to say after watching this trailer. It is almost to strange for words. The entire thing is set to the beat of a man’s head being bashed against a wall. The trailer is an odd use of images and repetition but no real point. The Coen Brothers are not known for being normal so we will have to wait and see. Continue reading to check out this trailer and a synopsis for the film via Apple.
Today, Yahoo! debuted the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s animated feature Fantastic Mr. Fox. I enjoy Wes Anderson’s unique style of filmmaking, especially The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Royal Tenenbaums, but I do not find this film interesting. The stop-motion looks too creepy, not visually entertaining like Wallace & Gromit. The movie tells the story of a group of animals who launch an attack on the humans who will demolish their homes for construction. The voice cast is stellar, including the few-and-far-between Bill Murray, but I have a hard time looking past the style of the movie. Take a look and let us know what you think below. Fantastic Mr. Fox hits theaters this November.
For all of you fans of Heroes who are anxiously awaiting the new season to kick off this fall, this three and a half minute clip should hold you over. The new season of the NBC television show about superheroes among us will kick of on September 21st. This clip is titled Heroes: Chapter 5 – Redemption. Check it out after the jump.
We learned last week that the sequel to Tron from the 1980’s would now be titled Tron Legacy. We saw some footage, some great concept art, and we experienced a viral marketing campaign for the film. Today we have news to report on the movie and that is actor Michael Sheen will be joining the cast as the film’s villain. Walt Disney Pictures confirmed the news today via Twitter that the Frost/ Nixon actor will be joining the Tron cast as a villain that “is in fact not a person at all.”
Another video game is being adapted into a full length movie according to THR. Sony Pictures is set to bring InFAMOUS, a video game from the Playstation 3 console, to the big screen in the near future. InFAMOUS was released this past May on the gaming platform and centers on bike messenger Cole MacGrath, who survives an explosion that destroys entire blocks of Empire City only to find he has new electricity-derived super powers. The game allows players to choose weather they use MacGrath’s powers for good or evil. Screenwriter Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard) pitched the idea to Sony and was selected to pen the film for the studio.
Variety is reporting that another beloved book by the late, great Dr. Seuss will be headed to the big screen. The Lorax will be the next childrens book to be adapted into a feature length film. Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment plan to creat the move with CG and in a 3D format. Dr. Seuess’ story about, oddly enough, the environment, and the trek of the Lorax (a creature which speaks on behalf of all the trees.) Like most Dr. Seuss books, The Lorax teaches a lesson. It is a fable about respecting our surroundings and understanding the impact we have on the environment. The metaphors in this story are really vivid throughtout the text.
Every year at San Diego Comic-Con certain retailers offer what are known as “exclusives”. These items can be purchased only to people who attend the con and come in many forms such as action figures, comic books, posters, shirts, etc. These highly sought after items are very limited in quantity and require vast amounts of patience and sometimes money to acquire. About three months ago pictures surfaced of a set of Green Lantern figures that would be offered at the con from Graphitti Designs. They were to coincide with the Blackest Night and feature Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) as a Green, Yellow, Blue, Orange and Red Lantern. With something this popular it was going to be a huge task to get a full set and the series had a very low production run. Find out how low after the jump.
Webcrawler is a segment we run that features unique material on the net that you may not have came across. It typically involves movies or some aspect of entertainment and popular culture. Today’s Webcrawler features Adam Sandler and Judd Apatow who are being interviewed for their new film Funny People. They guy doing the interview begins to pitch the duo his idea for a “hit” movie that is about beer and chicks. The best part of the clip is when Apatow tells him to make it a good pitch and he will give him half a million dollars. Check it out.

Now that we are back home from all the insanity that is known as Comic-Con we have begun to reflect on the best (and unfortunately worst) parts the SDCC. Overall the trip was a success. We were able to cover pretty much everything that we had set out to see. Like most trips, ours hit a few speed bumps along the way, but it gave us knowledge for next year, so the 2010 Comic-Con will be even better than this year! Continue reading for our recap on the best and worst of the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con.
Our first year at the San Diego Comic-Con has come to a close and we are still standing. After five days of exciting panels, a crowded convention floor, and tons of parties, we are flying back home and the first thing to do upon our arrival: take a nap. As much fun as the SDCC was, it was also very exhausting. Early mornings, late nights, and a packed schedule in between don’t leave much time for rest. We managed to blog about all the panels we attended, we twittered about our celebrity sightings, and photographed our journey along the way. We have a few more recaps to share with you before we get back to the daily grind of movie news, reviews, and everything else that has made Fanboyz.net a success. Thank you for following all of our coverage and we will see you next year in San Diego!
My third and fourth days at Comic-Con 2009 were very busy and kept me moving around all day and night. Since many of you have been following me on Facebook and Twitter, I’ve decided not to go through what all I did and saw. Instead, I have come up with something that will be extremely vital for a pleasent Comic-Con trip for anyone who goes for the first time. Here are my 7 Rules for Rookies:

As another Halloween approaches we can be sure to expect Lionsgate will have a new Saw movie for audiences to check out. This year marks the sixth anniversary of the franchise which began in 2004 and has become a staple of pop culture. This October Sav VI will arrive in theaters with even more twisted games and unique methods of killing victims. The first teaser trailer for Saw VI has been released and while it doesn’t really introuduce us to anything new, it serves as a reminder that the horror franchise will be returning yet again. There are rumors that Lionsgate will make eight films, but I could see this franchise going even longer than that. As long as people are buying tickets the studio will continue to make the films. Check out the teaser trailer after the jump.
One of the most original films hitting theaters this fall is Shane Acker’s 9. There has been a lot of buzz about the project, and from the information garnered at the panel, the buzz has been correctly given. The audience was presented with a relevant and insightful panel of the director Shane Acker, executive producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, and stars Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connolly. With some exclusive footage, interesting discussions, and a deeper understanding into the back story of the film, I left the panel hardly able to wait till September 9th.
Following the Comic-Con panel, AMC debuted the first footage from the highly anticipated miniseries The Prisoner. The footage gives us the basic premise and promises a truly incredible adaptation of the classic series. It is rare that a miniseries or television event gets such star power, considering Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen have both done incredible work. The 9 minute long clip gives us an understanding of what to expect from the story, although with so much mystery woven into the plot, we know there is much more then what we think we know. The Prisoner begins November 2009.
In all the ruckus of Comic- Con we must have just passed over these very cool teaser posters. One for Michael J. Bassett’s Solomon Kane and a set of 3 very funny posters for Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods. We haven’t seen much from either film yet, however the images and tag lines for them are great. See the posters after the jump
