Sinestro Corps (Yellow Lantern) Bio

Next on our tour of the emotional spectrum is the color yellow. Green is said to be the color of “will” in the DC Universe, but yellow is meant to be “fear”. What makes a person capable of being a Green Lantern (GL) is their ability to over come great fear. So intern what makes a better opponent than a group whose base function is to spread fear across the universe? Learn about Sinestro, the yellow light, Parallax, and more below.

Sinestro

Sinestro is an alien from the planet Korugar. He was once held as one of the greatest GL’s ever. When he was given a new cadet to teach he did so with some reluctance. An Earth man by the name of Hal Jordan was to be his trainee. Though there was little, if any, commotion through out Sinestro’s sector. Hal would find out that he was running his sector like a dictatorship and was pivotal in Sinestro’s expulsion from the corps.  For the crime of using his ring to instill fear rather than fight it the Guardians banished Sinestro to the “Anti-Matter”  universe.(Which  is the opposite of the regular universe)  In this universe he obtained a yellow ring which he later used to fight GL’s and attempt some revenge on the Guardians.

Yellow Light

The Yellow ring that Sinestro wore was powerful against a GL. For many years a GL’s green ring could not work against anything that was yellow. It was a weakness in the design, a weakness that the Guardians never talked about until a few years ago. It turns out that Yellow was the color of “fear” and to be able to use your green ring on it you had to truly over come fear itself.

Parallax

Sometime later Hal Jordan would become a great Green Lantern, but the rise to greatness often becomes a horrific fall. Hal’s home town, Coast City, is all but destroyed when the space villain known as Mongul comes to earth. Hal is so distraught by this loss that he uses his ring to recreate his city. The Guardians see this as a misuse of his power and demand that he return to Oa for the consequences. Hal rebels and heads to Oa to gain more power. On his way he meets many fellow GL’s and does battle with them, leaving a trail of bodies behind and taking each fallen GL’s power ring. When he gets to Oa he encounters a desperate attempt to stop him. The Guardians turn to Sinestro for help and the fight they have pushes Hal even further out of control when Hal seemingly breaks Sinestro’s neck. Hal then enters the Central Power Battery and absorbs all of its energy and kills all but one Guardian. It would be revealed later that Hal was under control of the Fear entity known as Parallax.

Sinestro reappears later and has formed his own corps in his image. He still wants to protect the universe, but he believes that fear is the best way to do it. His appearance with a new corps is a sign of the Blackest Night Prophecy; “Seven Corps will be born. Seven Corps will shine their light brightly”

Sinestro Corps Oath

In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light
Let those who try to stop what’s right,
Burn like my power… Sinestro’s might!

As the days go on we will talk more on the other corps. Please check out our Green Lantern Bio.
