Sean Penn Taking Year Hiatus From Hollywood

This year’s Best Actor Oscar went to Sean Penn for playing gay rights activist Harvey Milk in Milk. Penn has always been a Hollywood staple. He is an incredible actor who submerges himself into every role he takes on. He has numerous projects lined up for the future including the Farrelly brother’s Three Stooges movie. Well, it looks like he is disregarding all of this success, all of these upcoming projects, and is opting to take a year off from the business which has made him a star. THR is reporting that Penn is taking this time to spend with his family, which may be the result of his recent separation from wife Robin Wright Penn. Penn was set to star in two high profile films. The first being the Farrelly brother’s Three Stooges project and the other being Universal and Imagine’s crime thriller Cartel.

We reported back in March that Penn would be joining fellow actors Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro as Larry, Curly, and Moe in The Three Stooges. This project has been in the works for a better part of a decade, and now with the departure of Penn, Peter and Bobby Farrelly will have to search for a new Larry to meet their August shooting schedule.

Rumor is, Penn may take the better part of a year off. Sean Penn is one of my favorite actors and if he wants to take a year off to spend time with his family, I say good for him. He has, and will continue to have, an illustrious career which includes two Best Actor Academy Awards. What do you think about Sean Penn’s decision to take some time off?
