Robot Chicken Scribe to Pen Short Circuit Reboot

Just when it seemed nothing else from the 80′s could be remade, news surfaced today that Dan Milano, writer of Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network, was penning a screenplay for a Short Circuit remake. To some, this is a knife in the back of their childhood. To me, I welcome a remake. Short Circuit tells the story of Johnny 5, a military grade robot who develops a conscience and personality of his own.

Considering the military has exponentially increased the use of robotics on the battlefield, the basic plot is not too far fetched. With the expansion of artificial intelligence technology in modern science, a robot having feelings and personality is not too distant as well. Perhaps the plot is not so science fiction after all. Remakes are hit or miss, and almost all are way off the mark when it comes to telling at least a decent story from the source material. I love Robot Chicken and Short Circuit, and while I cannot say it’s a perfect match to have Dan Milano attached to the project, their show is hilarious and this could be a great comedic shot in the arm for Johnny 5.
