Bryan Singer Interested in Returning to X-Men
This could be good news for the fledgling X-Men franchise. What started as a promising movie franchise ended with a thud as X-Men 3: The Last Stand, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine failed to impress fans. X-Men and X-Men 2 were very good comic book films which stuck to their subject matter which is important for a franchise that is already established through the comic books. Director Bryan Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films, chose to not return for the third, and thus we were given X-Men 3 by Brett Ratner. Many fans think Ratner ruined the franchise and I would have to agree. Recently Total Film and The Geek Files spoke with Singer who spoke candidly about returning to the Marvel universe for another X-Men film. Check out what he had to say after the jump.
“I’m eternally intertwined with X-Men now,” Singer told Total Film. “What takes an audience four hours to watch – the first two movies – took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it….It’s a shame.”
They also asked Singer whether he wished he had directed the third “X-Men” movie, to which he replied, “It’s weird for me to watch it, because I’m so close to the universe. And also Brett is a good friend of mine. But, of course, I would love to return to that universe.”
They also asked Singer about directing the next Origins film, X-Men Origins: Magneto. Singer stated, ” The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto’s history in the concentration camp, then I’ve lived in that world. Apt Pupil, X-Men and now Valkyrie…I’ve lived in that Nazi universe for quite a while. I just might need to take a little break before I do something like that.”
Although his answers are vauge, there shows promise that we may get to see Bryan Singer reunited with his X-Men cast. X2: X-Men United is one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, and I have not doubt that Singer could revive this franchise, a revival which it needs and deserves. I would much rather see Singer tackle another X-Men film than another Superman movie. Do you agree? Leave your thoughts below.
