Buffy The Vampire Slayer To Re-Launch With No Whedon?

OH MY GOD! FANBOY SACRILEGE IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN! Apparently, somebody thinks that it’s a good idea to re-boot Buffy the Vampire Slayer without the brains to do it right. BTVS creator, Joss Whedon, will most likely not have a part in the possible re-imagining of his cult favorite character. Somewhere along the way Fran Rubel Kuzui obtained the rights to the character and can do as she wishes with the franchise. Kuzui was the director of that first piece of crap movie made in the 90′s and was later a producer on the series. True, Whedon wrote the original script, but who knows how much influence Kuzui had in making it crap. On top of that they wont even be using Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy. They are thinking of making new supporting characters too! Read more complaining after the jump.

Ok, I am very weary about this idea. It’s one thing to re-boot the original Star Trek crew because those actors are too old to play the characters, but BTVS has only been off air for six years. These characters are still fresh in our minds. The majority of the cast has not done too much with their careers that this can not be done right. Granted, some of them may not want to do it, but who doesn’t want to be in a movie? It doesn’t make sense to me. And there is a pretty badass BTVS comic book out right now from Dark Horse Comics that depicts the actors who have played the characters. To do something totally out of that realm and re-imagine them at this point seems wrong. Plus we lose all of the great lore that makes up the Buffy-verse. No Angel and Buffy. No Spike and Buffy. No Xander, Giles, or Willow. No army of Slayers. I am not on board with thisĀ  right now.

Obviously I am a Buffy fan, If Whedon gets on board than I will feel better. The proof is in the pudding. Kuzui directed the movie and it was pretty bad. Whedon wrote and directed countless episodes in the series and each one stands out better than the last. I would rather see a movie about Faith and Andrew (from the show) made into a film than what I am hearing today. This must have been what Star Trek fans felt when they heard about their re-boot.

Has anyone heard anything from Joss Whedon about this? Please post if you have.

Am I over reacting? Is this ok with other fans? Let us know
