Box Office: Terminator vs. Night at the Museum

This holiday weekend there is something for everyone to see. The adults will be flocking to the fourth installment in the Terminator franchise. The kids will be hitting up Ben Stiller’s sequel to Night at the Museum, and the teenagers may check out the Wayans’ Brothers comedy Dance Flick. Obviously the competition this weekend is between Bale and Stiller who are competing with Terminator and Museum respectively. Terminator Salvation hit theaters a day early with a Thursday release and hit the gates running. Midnight showings on Wednesday grossed a strong $3 million and with yesterdays opening its’ total stands at an impressive $13.3 million. How will the rest of the box office play out? With this weekend having Memorial day on Monday look for some big numbers at the box office. Last year Indiana Jones owned the weekend with a $100 million opening. Can Terminator hit those same numbers? It has tough competition with Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and it looks like either of these films could be top dog. There really is no for sure way to guess this weekend so I am going to do just that and make my best educated guess. Will the kids dominate the theaters or will Christian Bale’s robot action flick take the top spot? Here are my numbers for the weekend. Since this is a four day weekend these predictions are for Friday – Monday.

1. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian   $ 78 million

2. Terminator Salvation $72 million

3. Star Trek $33 million

4. Angels & Demons $ 25 million

5. Dance Flick $12
