Martin Luther King, Jr. Story Headed to the Big Screen

It appears that most figures in history, important or not, have had their story told in a movie at some time or another. Surprisingly though, the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has not. According to THR Steven Spielberg is looking to produce a film, with Dreamworks Studios, about the famous civil rights activist who was assassinated over 40 years ago. There have been several documentaries about King’s life, however there has not been a big theatrical release like this. Dreamworks has apparently secured the rights to Dr. King’s speeches and other mementos from his estate. King Estate Chairman and chief executive officer Dexter King said in a press release, “We hope that this will be the definitive film on his life and legacy.”
